Virginia takes on Villanova tonight
Plain and simple, Virginia unders are back until further notice. The Cavaliers take on another slow poke in Villanova whose offense is nonexistent early in the season.
Both teams are north of 294 in pace, with the Cavaliers ranking 363rd, 2nd slowest in the nation. On top of the low number of possessions in this game, both defenses are incredible. They are both Top 85 in defensive efficiency, the Cavs are 16th in defensive eFG%, and both are incredibly good at cleaning up the glass on the defensive end. Virginia does not offensive rebound at all, meaning very few extra possessions will fall into their hands. Both teams shoot the three well, but not often enough to be concerned, and lastly, they do a great job of not fouling.
Villanova is 128th in FT Rate defensively while the Cavs are 16th, meaning their shouldn't be too many points from the charity stripe tonight. Ultimately, this is going to be a very slow paced matchup with defense dominating.

Dylan Harper and Rutgers take on Monmouth tonight
Another under! Who would've guessed?!
Rutgers hosts Monmouth tonight and let me tell ya, they'll shut down their visitors. The Scarlet Knights rank 11th in defensive efficiency so far this season, taking care of the ball on offense, keeping teams off of the free throw line, and defending the very well inside the arc. Now, both teams shoot less than 30% from deep, and are north of 230 in 3P Rate, meaning they don't like the deep ball as much as other teams.
Offensively, Monmouth is just bad. They are 354th in eFG% and 360th in 2P%. Without the threat from downtown, Rutgers can focus on controlling the pace of this game where they rank 195th in the country, and defending the rim. I see Rutgers handling business from start to finish, without letting it get too far out of hand.

Can Mark Sears and Alabama take down Purdue on the road?
We are absolutely drinking the juice on the ML here as Alabama goes into West Lafayette to take on the Boilermakers. Purdue has to reload after losing Zack Edey, but Braden Smith and Fletcher Loyer are still shooting very well from deep. This game could turn into a 3 point contest very early, and I think that favors the Crimson Tide.
Alabama is one of the fastest teams in the nation, and they have not been shooting up to their standard quite yet. Tonight I see them getting plenty of opportunities to take down Purdue who won't want to keep up. Alabama is a very tough matchup for defenses, with a pair of 6'11" forwards with very different play styles, as well as a fearless point guard in Mark Sears. The Crimson Tide get to the rim a ton, nearly 60% of the time, and defend the perimeter very well.
Personally, I like the matchup better for the Tide, and I think overall they are the better team right here and now. Give me Alabama to pull off this tough win at home.

Can Texas A&M take down the Buckeyes at home?
In the other game of the night, we are taking the under. Texas A&M runs one of the slowest offenses in the nation, ranking 306th in possessions per game. Despite these offenses being Top 20 in the country, both defenses are also Top 40, and let me tell ya, Ohio State runs slow as well.
The Buckeyes rank 240th in possessions per game, and they should know they are outmatched offensively. If that's the case, they should slow things down, limiting the amount of opportunities that the Aggies have on offense. Ohio State leads the nation in eFG defense, they do not do a good job of getting to the free throw line, an are also 12th in 2P% defense. Texas A&M is north of 260 in 3P Rate as they love to get to the rim. While the Aggies are prone to grabbing offensive rebounds, that might be a bit tougher against the Buckeyes tonight.
Defense wins championships. Tonight it will rule this game as Buzz Williams should have his boys fired up to come alive in front of the home crowd on Friday Night. Give me the under and the Aggies to get the job done!
