As the Big East season approaches, UConn stands as the clear favorite to clinch the conference title once again, backed by their talented roster and elite coaching from Dan Hurley. However, St. John's and Creighton could emerge as dark horses, with the Jonnies featuring standout Kadary Richmond and the Bluejays led by star big man Ryan Kalkbrenner. While UConn is poised for success, both St. John's and Creighton have the potential to disrupt the status quo.

The Big East Belongs to the Huskies
As long as Dan Hurley is at UConn, taking down this powerhouse men's program will be a challenge. The back-to-back national champions are poised for another successful season, led by junior Alex Karaban, who averaged 13.3 PPG and 5.1 RPG last year, shooting 37.9% from three. Hurley also secured the No. 8 ranked recruiting class, including five-star recruit Liam McNeeley, a sharpshooter from national champion Montverde (FL) Academy. With so much depth and talent, and under the guidance of one of the best coaches in college basketball, it will be tough to knock off the Huskies.

Dark Horse to Win the Big East?
It is between two teams, St. John's and Creighton.
Year two of Rick Pitino at St. John's could be something special, especially with former first-team All-Big East forward Kadary Richmond, who averaged 15.7 PPG, 7.0 RPG, and 5.1 APG last season. The Jonnies also added six-foot guard Deivon Smith from Utah, who led the Pac-12 in assists and shot 40.8% from three while averaging 1.1 steals per game.
On the other side, Creighton brings back star big man Ryan Kalkbrenner, one of the best defenders in the country, who averaged 17.3 PPG, 7.6 RPG, and 2.1 BPG last year. The Bluejays have also added former Texas Tech guard Pop Isaacs, boosting their scoring potential.
While some might argue that the two teams below UConn in the odds aren't exactly "long shots," given UConn's dominance in the conference over the past few years, it certainly feels like a long shot for anyone to dethrone them.
