Conference tournaments are unpredictable, making it wise to look beyond the favorites for value. One team peaking at the right time in the Big East is UConn, which has been one of the conference's best since February 1. With a strong resume, elite rebounding, and a manageable path, the Huskies are poised to make a deep run.

Betting the Big East Tournament: Why UConn is the Play?

Are the Huskies worth the price?

When betting on conference tournaments, I tend to avoid the favorites unless it is as close to a guarantee as possible. However, this is sports—nothing is a guarantee. My approach to the Big East Tournament is to back one of the hottest teams in the conference since February 1.

No, not Xavier, despite its 8-1 record during that span. The Musketeers benefited from a soft schedule, facing Providence twice, Butler twice, DePaul, Seton Hall, and Creighton. Instead, UConn is the team I am targeting. The Huskies have been the third-best team in the Big East since February 1, winning seven of their last ten games. Their most notable victories include Marquette twice, Creighton on the road, and Villanova. During this stretch, UConn has maintained the 21st-best offense and 67th-best defense in the country while boasting the second-best offensive rebounding unit.

The Path

UConn's path to the championship starts with the winner of Seton Hall vs. Villanova, which will most likely be Villanova, given Seton Hall has the worst offense in the conference. From there, they would likely face Creighton, a team they have handled well this season. The championship round would likely feature Marquette or St. John's. The Huskies have struggled against the Red Storm, losing both meetings by six. However, the Huskies have the talent to overcome that challenge.

The conference tournament is a different beast. If UConn can get hot, they have the coaching and talent to make a deep run. At 4/1 odds, they are well worth a look.

Big East Prediction: UConn (+400) on BetOnline
