North Texas, Keep It Green!

Does the Mean Green have what it takes to get to the championship?

One of my all-time favorite college basketball programs is the North Texas Mean Green. They thrive on playing lockdown defense and slowing the game to a crawl. Currently, they are second on BetOnline's odds to win the AAC Conference Tournament.

Since February 1, the Mean Green have been the second-best team in the conference, according to advanced metrics. They have sustained a top-160 offense, complemented by a top-60 defense. Their defense excels in three-point percentage defense, limiting three-point attempts, and protecting the paint. North Texas ranks third in points allowed per game, giving up just 60 points on average.

The Mean Green's Path

As the number two seed, North Texas will need to get past the winner of the Tulsa vs. Temple game. Following that, they will most likely face UAB, a team they split their season series with. After that, it is likely they will face the number one-seeded Memphis Tigers, who they already lost to this season by only four points on Memphis' home court. In a neutral setting, North Texas has a solid chance of beating them.

This team has all the talent to make a deep run in this tournament. I believe they are well worth the 2/1 price.

AAC Prediction: North Texas (+200) on BetOnline
