Will the Grizzled Warriors or Experienced Kings Grab Game 7 Glory?

When the Warriors went into Sacramento and took a 3-2 lead last Wednesday, most would have expected them to close out the series at home on Friday.

After all, they were going into a potential clincher at home with 35 wins in 43 home games this season and were riding the wave of three straight wins after an initial 2-0 series deficit.

But Sacramento started well, and they didn't allow Golden State to get any sort of foothold all night. The Dubs did take the lead a few times late in the first quarter and led by two at the end of the period, but the Kings went back ahead early in the second and never trailed again.

It was a surprising performance and result, given how the previous three games had gone.

Sacramento's defensive efforts were especially notable. After shooting 50% from the field in Game 4 and 52.1% in Game 5, the Warriors shot only 37.2% in Game 6.

The rebounding battle was also key. The Warriors outrebounded the Kings in Game 3, then kept it close in Game 4 (even) and Game 5 (-1).

But in Game 6, Sacramento outrebounded Golden State 53-42 and grabbed 18 offensive rebounds, half of which belonged to Domantas Sabonis.

If the Kings win the rebounding battle again in Game 7, the numbers favor them moving on to the second round for the first time since 2004, when they lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a seven-game series. In the last ten games in which they won the rebounding battle, Sacramento is 6-4 SU and 7-3-0 ATS.

Sabonis did have his nine offensive rebounds and 11 total rebounds in Game 6, but he played only 23 minutes and fouled out with 5:17 left.

When he was in the game, he didn't have much of an impact as a scorer, recording only seven points on 3 of 12 shooting.

Fortunately, Sacramento still prospered despite his foul trouble and limited scoring, but he will be expected to contribute more in Game 7. He has scored in single digits only four times now this season, but he put up 20+ points in the following game in two of the previous three instances. I like the odds that he will bounce back and be a key piece of Sacramento's efforts to close out the series.
