What a debut for Paul George on opening night. George scored 38 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, had 5 steals and shot 57% from the field. His 38 points were the most ever in a Celtics' debut and it was soured by a blown 22-point lead.
The Pistons went on a 23-0 run late in the 2nd half of Tuesday night's game and the Celtics had no answer. They were outscored 76-55 in the 2nd half and 39-25 in the 4th quarter. Boston needs to be better at closing games and tonight, in their home opener, they'll get another chance.
The Knicks come into this game off an ugly loss of their own. After receiving their Championship Rings on Tuesday night, the Knicks blew a tire and scored just 100 points. They'd end up losing the game 106-100, despite the fact the Sixers shot 42% from the field and 28% from the perimeter.
The Sixers took 40 3-point attempts in that game, 37 of which were labelled 'open' to 'wide open'. Philly shot just 37% on these open/wide-open attempts and it's because the Sixers don't have the shooters.
George took 12 3s against the Pistons in their season opener, 8 of which were open/wide-open. The Pistons were near the bottom in open 3-point attempts allowed last year and it's something the Knicks struggled with last year.
Last year the Celtics finished top-3 in 3-point attempts, top-5 in open/wide-open 3-point attempts and it's the exact type of offense we should see PG thrive in.
This is also the perfect matchup, he's hit this in 3 of his last 4 games against New York; now he gets to do it in front of the home crowd at TD Garden.

It's probably too early in the season for this, but we're betting on Duncan Robinson tonight back in South Beach. Robinson had 21 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in their come from behind win over the Celtics and he was a HUGE reason as to how they came back.
Robinson scored 15 of his 21 in the 4th quarter, going 3/4 from beyond the arc and finished as a +19 in the final frame. Tonight Robinson's back in Miami, the city he started his NBA career and the city he went to NBA Finals with.
Robinson signed with the Pistons before the start of last year. He started 77 games for the team and averaged 12.2 points per game and 2.7 rebounds per contest. Robinson shot 41% from the perimeter last year and he's clearly Detroit's best shooter.
Miami once again this year is playing at a top-3 pace in the league. That means more points, more shots, more possessions, more rebounds and more everything. The Heat were 22nd in 3s allowed last year, 22nd in points allowed and 26th in rebounds allowed.
The pace hasn't changed and it's the exact kind of pace that benefits a guy like Duncan Robinson.
The Jazz got the doors blown off them by the Grizzlies in their season opener. The Jazz lost 123-103, the starters hit the bench early and this one was never really in doubt. Keyonte George scored 22 points, dished out 5 assists and played just 29 minutes in the 20-point blowout.
George finished with 9 potential assists in their first game and tonight they face off with a Pelicans team that just gave up 120 to the Pacers.
The Pelicans let the Pacers shoot 52% from the field, gave up 27 points on the fastbreak and thats while Indiana shot 30% from beyond the arc. Utah shot 47% from the field in their season opening loss, they just gave up too many offensive rebounds (15) and let the Grizzlies run all over them.
Tonight the Jazz are back in Salt Lake City, ready for the home opener and up against a really bad defense. The Pelicans were 25th in assists allowed last year, 24th in points allowed, 22nd in opponent effective field goal percentage and 27th in points allowed on the fastbreak.
Tyrese Haliburton had 12 assists against this defense just two nights ago and after a poor outing in Memphis, I think the Jazz come out angry.
