After picking up back-to-back wins in Denver to begin the series, it looked like the Timberwolves were ready to sweep the defending champions. Instead, they allowed the opportunity to slip through their hands at home, resulting in the Nuggets tying the series ahead of Game 5.

If Denver wants to notch a third consecutive win, it must keep up its solid defensive play. Minnesota barely produced any offense in the last two games, averaging 98.5 points while shooting 45.8% from the floor and 34.4% from deep. What's even more concerning is that the Timberwolves have yet to score more than 107 points in this series despite all the talent they possess.

It doesn't help that Anthony Edwards is the only player who's consistently shown up for Minnesota. While he's averaging 31.5 points in the last two games, each of his teammates is averaging fewer than 13. Karl-Anthony Towns and Mike Conley have been offensive black holes during that stretch, putting up a combined 26.0 PPG on 17-for-46 shooting (37.0%).

Meanwhile, the Nuggets had three players who averaged at least 20 PPG in Games 3 and 4. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray have done well at leading the charge and it helps that Aaron Gordon has stepped up into a bigger offensive role.

The Nuggets' best players stepped up in Games 3 and 4. Will that continue tonight? 

I just don't know if the Timberwolves can win a third straight game at Ball Arena. Yes, back-to-back wins in Denver to open the series was an impressive feat, but that doesn't erase the fact that the Nuggets are 36-10 SU at home this season on top of being 56-22 SU as the favorite.

The Timberwolves do own the second-best success rate as the road underdog this season (52.4%), however, they've dropped six of their last nine trips to Ball Arena dating back to January 2023.

At the end of the day, I'm backing the Nuggets to take a 3-2 series lead tonight. I see Denver finally winning at home after being embarrassed in Games 1 and 2. Momentum is on the defending champions' side and I see the Nuggets further putting the Timberwolves in their place with another full 48-minute effort.

I also won't be shocked if the game finishes with over 206 total points. After all, the last seven Timberwolves-Nuggets matchups averaged a combined 209.9 points, finishing with the Over on this prop six times — including in each of the last two meetings. With the stakes being higher due to it being Game 5, I see elevated efforts from both sides leading to the Over being hit again.
