Jayson Tatum Boston Celtics Philadelphia 76ers NBA Playoffs

On Thursday night, the Philadelphia 76ers failed to cash in on a chance to finish off the reigning Eastern Conference champions at the Wells Fargo Center. As a result, the Boston Celtics have new life and a decisive Game 7 at home this afternoon (3:30 pm ET, ABC).

With less than six minutes left in Game 6, the Sixers held an 83-81 lead over the Celtics. But they scored just three more points the rest of the way, and Jayson Tatum shook off serious struggles when it mattered, nailing four huge threes in the final four minutes to give Boston a season-saving 95-86 win.

Will Philadelphia be able to put the missed opportunity behind them and win in Boston for the third time in the series? Or will a Doc Rivers-led squad fall short of the conference finals yet again? Read on for our 76ers vs Celtics Game 7 prediction and best bets, including our favorite player prop bets.

Will Boston Deliver the Knockout Blow at Home?

James Harden was just 4 of 16 from the field in Game 6.

If you are a Sixers fan or have bets on them to win the series, it might be easy to fixate on the stumbles down the stretch in Game 6, and for good reason.

To get a chance to close out the Celtics at the Wells Fargo Center after picking up a second win in Boston is no small thing. And they were mere minutes from getting the job done after overcoming a double-digit deficit in the third quarter to take the lead.

Then they got cold, Tatum got hot, and that was that.

But to be at this point is no small thing either. They have won twice at TD Garden in the series and have taken things to the maximum amount of games when they were a heavy underdog even after evening the series at 2-2.

And in the regular season, the Sixers were one of three teams–themselves, the Celtics, and the Bucks–to win at least 25 home games and post a winning record on the road, and they are 4-1 SU and ATS on the road in the postseason.

So, even after a disastrous final stretch in Game 6, the 76ers are unlikely to be out of belief and confidence in themselves.

But can they manage to win in Boston for a third time?

Doing it in Game 1 was impressive. Doing it again in Game 5, and by double digits at that, was astounding. Is three times a bridge too far?

This is the same position that the Celtics found themselves in last year’s Eastern Conference semifinals against the Milwaukee Bucks. In that series, they lost Game 1 at home, faced elimination on the road after losing Game 5 at home, then won Game 6 on the road to set up a Game 7 at home.

In that Game 7, Milwaukee took a ten-point lead late in the first quarter. From that point, Boston outscored them by 38 points in a series-clinching 109-81 rout.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics Prediction and Best Bets

Prediction for 76ers vs Celtics: Celtics to win

Best Bets for 76ers vs Celtics: Celtics -6.5 (Best Value: FanDuel/Caesars Sportsbook/BetMGM) & Celtics team total over 103.5 (Best Value: FanDuel & Caesars Sportsbook)

After entering this series on a 9-0 SU/8-1-0 ATS run at home, the Celtics have been rather disappointing at home in this series.

But after coming back from the brink on Thursday, the Celtics aren’t going to be in the mood to mess around today.

Best Player Prop Bets for 76ers vs Celtics

  • Jayson Tatum over 3.5 made threes (Best Value: BetRivers)

Tatum’s shooting has run hot and cold in this series, but he got hot when it mattered the most in Game 6, and I expect that to carry over in to Game 7.

In last year’s Game 7 against the Bucks, Tatum was 5 of 9 from three. Will he be that sharp today? He may or may not be, but I expect this prop to hit with little drama.
