There is little I love more in the betting market than a revenge narrative. Dyson Daniels comes into tonight's games against the Pelicans with exactly that on his mind; revenge.
Daniels spent 2 years with the Pelicans coming off the bench. During that time he averaged just 20.0 minutes per game and he'd put up 4.8 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. The kid was very raw and the Pelicans just never saw the potential.
Daniels was a part of the package that landed Dejounte Murray from the Hawks and since then, both teams have been on completely different trajectories. The Hawks made the playoffs last year, Daniels is talked about like one of the best defenders in the league and the Hawks are thriving once again.
The Pelicans have been bad, they are bad again this year and I don't see how their future gets any better. The team is 26th in points allowed this year, 29th in opponent field goal percentage and 27th in assists allowed.
New Orleans has also struggled against opposing PGs. The defense ranks 21st in points allowed to the position and 24th in assists allowed. Daniels has been the Hawks de facto PG this year and I don't see that changing tonight.
The Milwaukee Bucks are 30th in assists allowed to the PG position, 27th in points allowed, 20th in opponent field goal percentage and they are playing at the 2nd highest pace in the NBA.
James Harden and the Cleveland Cavaliers come into this game after winning 3 of their first 5 games; but Harden's hit this line in just 1 game this year. He's averaging 12 potential assists per game but the Cavaliers pace of play does a lot to hinder the assist opportunities.
That being said, Harden is the guy that runs this Cavs' offense and with the two big men down low; assists opportunities are aplenty.
The Bucks are 29th in turnover rate this year and those turnovers have lead to opportunities the other way. Harden's averaging just 6.2 assists per game this year but that's bound to change. The 6.2 assists per game would be a career low for Harden and I just don't expect it to stay that low with offensive weapons he has surrounding him.
The Houston Rockets come into this game off their first loss of the year and Amen Thompson off possibly his worst game of the year. Thompson scored just 15 points, grabbed 3 rebounds and 5 assists. The Rockets lost 116-111 and Thompson was a big reason why.
Tonight the Rockets face off with the Oklahoma City Thunder and this Thunder team is under-manned; to say the least. Thompson finished with 13 potential assists in their last game, but that equated to just 3 total assists.
Amen's averaging 8 potential assists per game this year and 13.8 rebound chances. He's doing a lot more on the glass and it's leading to chances out in transition for the Rockets. Houston's offense finally looks like it's supposed to and I think Amen's a big reason as to why.
