NASCAR Xfinity Series BetMGM 300 Predictions & Picks: Will Gibbs Prosper from Pole at Charlotte?

Last night, 2023 NASCAR Truck Series Rookie of the Year Nick Sanchez won from pole in the North Carolina Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Today, another former Rookie of the Year will aim to do the same there in the BetMGM 300, the 12th race of the Xfinity Series season (1:00 pm ET, FOX).
Ty Gibbs, who won Cup Series Rookie of the Year honors last year and Xfinity Series Rookie of the Year honors in his championship-winning 2021 season, will start on pole in his second Xfinity Series start of the season.
He is one of a few Cup Series regulars taking part in the BetMGM 300, with Kyle Busch, Chase Elliott, and Noah Gragson also doing double duty this weekend. Busch, who has won this race a record five times, will start alongside Gibbs in the front row in his first Xfinity Series start of 2024.
Gibbs (Joe Gibbs Racing) and Busch (Richard Childress Racing) are part of two of the four teams that have accounted for all 11 race wins thus far this season, along with JR Motorsports and Hendrick Motorsports. Will that quartet continue to own Victory Lane? Based on the race odds, that outcome is likely.

Entering today's race, Austin Hill and Chandler Smith have both won two races, which is tops among drivers this season.
But their individual achievements don't compare to what the #20 car has done overall. Three different drivers have won in the #20, with John Hunter Nemechek winning at Las Vegas, Aric Almirola at Martinsville, and Ryan Truex at Dover.
Will Gibbs become the fourth to commandeer the #20 to victory this season? The only polesitter to win this season is Kyle Larson, who won the Focused Health 250 at COTA in March.
From a betting perspective, other drivers certainly present better value. That said, given the success that the #20 has had in 2024 and Gibbs' previous success at Charlotte—he has finished first, second, and fifth in three Xfinity Series starts there—he should be a part of your BetMGM 300 picks no matter what.
Beyond Gibbs, 2023 race winner Justin Allgaier is an appealing option as well. Allgaier had a dominant win two weeks ago at Darlington, as he led 119 of 147 laps to pick up his first victory of the season.
Allgaier, who will start ninth, is worth backing for the win, and at -125 for a top-five finish, which would be his fourth of the season.
Also, 2023 Xfinity Series champion Cole Custer is worth a look. He is still seeking his first win of 2024, but he has six top-five finishes and nine top-ten finishes thus far. He will start sixth today, which makes +125 for a top-five finish one of the best value bets on the board.
