Main Event: Gilbert Burns vs Mike Malott Preview – Welterweight

Main Event Made Official With Both Fighters Hitting The 171 lb Mark
Long time UFC veteran Gilbert Burns will make his return off a full year lay off to take on the home town favorite Mike Malott. Burns took a step away from MMA for 6+ months due to concussion complications from his last KO loss to Morales.
The concussion complications are something to worry about at almost 39 years old. When you consider Burns long 24 fight career in the UFC, including 4 knockout losses the future seems dark for him.
One thing worth mentioning is 2 of those KO losses have actually come within his last 4 fights. The durability of Burns has gone with his age due to constant wars inside the octagon.
Even at 40 years old Burns is still a high level black belt with credentialed wrestling skills. Just 2 years ago he relentlessly took down former champion Della Maddalena.
Burns was winning most of the bout by dominant grappling before Maddalena scored a late knockout. Despite his age a once high level fighter like Burns will be a big step up in competition for Mike Malott.
Will Burns Grapple His Way To Victory?
Malott is the hometown favorite in the match up as he is the leader of new age Canadian MMA. Not only will this big a big test in the Octagon but this will also be the first headlining opportunity for the 34 year old prospect.
The Canadian has been pushed by the UFC thus far in his career getting tailor made match ups. In his last big test against Holland, he passed with flying colors styling on Holland for 3 rounds.
The win proved his cardio to many MMA fans as many remember his slip up against Neil Magny. Magny was the first real test for Malott and he passed that test for about 13 minutes of the 15 minute bout.
Malott was unable to finish Magny in the early rounds and gassed in the 3rd round to suffer a brutal KO loss. In the 3 fights since the loss Malott has shown to have turned a corner in his career.
Ripping off 3 straight wins it seems as if Malott is back on the title hunt. A big win over a former 2x title contender like Burns could make a statement in the division.

- Round Total: 2.5 Total Rounds – Over (+100) / Under (-120)
- Most Likely Method Of Victory: Mike Malott By KO (-125)
Co – Main Event: Kyler Phillips vs Charles Jourdain Preview – Bantamweight

Exciting Bantamweight Bout Set For The Co – Main Event
Another hometown favorite finds himself in a tough match up in a headlining spot. Charles Jourdain will welcome Kyler Phillips to Canada for an exciting 3 round bout.
The bout will mark the 10th UFC appearance for Phillips. The prospect got his spot with the UFC after brief stints on the Contenders Series and Ultimate fighter.
Phillips quickly came on to the fans radar after so much screen time early in his career. Since joining the UFC he has gone 6-3 on his run with the promotion.
At one point Phillips made the impression of a legit prospect. Predominately a striker Phillips has flashed his movement, footwork, and versatile striking.
The one issue he has always face is his cardio as he has always faded as the fight goes longer. Phillips is coming off back to back losses and the problem has not been rectified at all.
The game plan to beat Phillips is out there and clear. It is up to the fan favorite Jourdain to execute that game plan.
Jourdain is on the complete opposite career trajectory as his counterpart. The former featherweight has made the move down to bantamweight in 2024.
Since joining the division Jourdain has ripped off back to back victories. To make matters more impressive he has finished both fights by submission.
It certainly has proved Jourdain has found a new home at 135 lbs. Jourdain is massive for the division which creates a new skill for the prospect.
He became the first fighter to finish Davey Grant in his last bout. The submission victory came after he seriously stunned Grant on the feet, showing real power at 135.
After another successful weigh in yesterday it is clear Jourdain is in the best physical shape of his career. MMA fans across the globe are highly anticipating to see if Jourdain can make a statement in a big Co – Main event match up.
