Main Event: Jack Della Maddalena vs Carlos Prates Preview – Welterweight

UFC Perth Jack Della Maddalena vs Carlos Prates Main Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

Highly Anticipated Main Event Of UFC Perth

The Main Event Of UFC Perth features a match up of top Welterweight contenders. Perth sweetheart Jack Della Maddalena will take on the tough Brazilian striker Carlos Prates in a 5 round Main Event.

Prates has made quick work of the Welterweight division thus far. The prospect has gone 6-1 in 7 bouts since earning his contract in 2023.

Including wins over top welterweights like Neil Magny, Leon Edwards and Geoff Neal. Prates has shown serious power in his striking, finishing all 6 wins by knockout.

The lone blemish on his record has been a decision loss to #1 contender Ian Garry in 2025. Even in the loss, Prates was seconds away from victory when he seriously hurt Garry in the 4th round.

Unable to find the finish, Prates was ultimately out pointed to a unanimous decision loss. Garry was able to find the take downs and control to limit Prates striking to earn points on the score cards.

Prates has bounced back nicely since the upsetting loss. Now on the heels of back to back knock out victories over top welterweights.

Can Prates Finally Earn His Title Shot?

There is no doubt Prates has re-positioned himself for a potential title shot with another solid victory. Unfortunately that is much easier said then done when running into such a high caliber talent like Jack Della Maddalena.

To make matters worse, he is coming into enemy territory as Maddalena is absolutely a superstar in Perth and Australia. The crowd will most definitely be with Maddalena for the duration of the bout which could sway the judges in certain areas.

Jack Della Maddalena is coming off losing his title to former lightweight and current welterweight champion Islam Makhachev. Not exactly a loss to be ashamed of as Makhachev has proven to be one of the greatest UFC talents in the history of the promotion.

In the bout Della Maddalena who is typically strong in the grappling department, was taken down several times. Makhachev showed great control and was able to hold down JDM for the majority of all 5 rounds on his way to winning the title.

Many MMA fans across the globe felt that Jack looked off that night, often grimacing in pain in exchanges. It is unclear if Jack was injured in the bout or just had his will broken during the bout but it is sure not the version of Jack fans were used to seeing.

I tend to lean on the side of Jack being injured, it is very rare we see that kind of drop off from a 29 year old prospect. The loss snapped an impressive 18 fight unbeaten streak, with his only 2 losses coming in his first 2 pro MMA bouts.

Can Jack Find His Way Back To WW Gold?

Della Maddalena has shown great take downs and submission skills of his own in his long career.  The South paw striker is very good at switching stances in boxing exchanges, giving his opponent much harder looks to find a fatal blow.

Due to the glaring hole in Prates grappling game, that could be JDM's key to victory here. I believe Jack has all the skill in the world to hang in the striking exchanges with Prates.

The difference here will be the grappling and control against the fence. Jack could bully his way into the pocket and make things very hard for Prates, much like what happened in the Ian Garry fight.

This card is built around the Australian Superstar Jack Della Maddalena and I believe that is by design. The 4 am start time proves they are catering to the Australian fans, and I find it hard to believe the UFC is not making this match up with clear intentions.

It will be interesting to see if Jack will be able to capitalize on his opportunity in front of the home crowd. One thing is for sure in this match up, the winner will likely become the #1 contender and earn themselves a title opportunity.

Jack Della Maddalena vs Carlos Prates Odds:

  • Moneyline: Jack Della Maddalena (-110) vs Carlos Prates (-110)
  • Round Total: 2.5 Total Rounds – Over (-175) / Under (+153)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Carlos Prates By KO/TKO (+150)

Co – Main Event: Beneil Dariush vs Quillan Salkilld Preview – Lightweight

UFC Perth Jack Della Maddalena vs Carlos Prates Main Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

Top Prospect Salkilld Takes On The UFC Veteran Dariush

The Co – Main event is an exciting bout that will feature a top Aussie prospect. Quillan Salkilld will be getting his first headlining opportunity against UFC veteran Beneil Dariush.

Unlike his counter part, Dariush is no stranger to the bright lights of a numbered card. Dariush has amassed an impressive resume with over 24 fights in the UFC.

The Kings MMA staple Dariush has a great grappling base but has since relied on his hands later in his career. A nasty left hook has found Dariush 3 impressive knock out victories over top contenders in the Lightweight division.

His long career is highlighted by a 8 fight winning streak between 2018 to 2023. The streak only came to an end by running into the current BMF champion and former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.

Dariush was ultimately finished in the first round against Oliveira and suffered the same fate in his next bout. It is no secret he is at the end of his career, going 2-3 since 2022 with each loss coming by way of finish.

The decline does not look promising for his hopes of beating such a talented prospect like Salkilld. Quillan has made quite the splash since earning his contract on Dana White's Contender Series in 2024.

Will Salkilld Continue His Run To The Top?

The Aussie prospect had an impressive performance, styling on Gauge Young for a decision victory. Salkilld went on to win his debut in incredible fashion, knocking out Anshul Jubli in under 20 seconds.

A true one hitter quitter, Salkilld has shown serious finishing instincts in 4 official bouts with the promotion. Now 4-0 in official UFC bouts, the Aussie has finished 3 of those bouts.

The versatility in his game has shined thru, even earning a submission win in his last outing against Jamie Mullarkey. The 26 year old is making quick work of the division, rising the rankings in an incredible pace.

Salkilld has now won 11 straight bouts with his lone loss coming in his Pro MMA debut. There is no doubt Salkilld has all the momentum and is full speed ahead in this match up.

With the durability concerns of Dariush at this point in his career, I believe this is an awful match up for him. I dont think anyone in this division wants to get in front of the freight train that is
