UFC Mexico kicks off tonight with an exciting 13 fight card in Mexico City! The card features many home town stars getting great opportunities in favorable match ups.

No bigger match up then the fantastic Main & Co – Main events booked. Mexican superstar Brandon Moreno will make his return to the octagon when he takes on rising prospect Lone'er Kavanagh.

The match up provides each fighter with a great opportunity to assert themself in the Flyweight title picture. Moreno will give Kavanagh the veteran test here and it will be interesting to see how Kavanagh responds after a tough loss.

The Co – Main event also provides an interesting opportunity for a Mexican prospect. David Martinez is getting his first headlining opportunity against UFC veteran Marlon Chito Vera.

The match up is quite favorable for Martinez, as Chito comes in on a 2 fight losing streak. The Card kicks off tonight live from Mexico city so lets get right into a preview of the 2 biggest fights on the card!

Main Event: Brandon Moreno vs Lone 'er Kavanagh Preview – Flyweight

UFC Mexico Brandon Moreno vs Lone 'er Kavanagh Main Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

Mexican Sweetheart Brandon Moreno Takes On Upcoming Prospect Lone'er Kavanagh

The main event of UFC Mexico features a home fan favorite taking on an upcoming prospect. Mexican sweetheart Brandon Moreno will take on the highly regarded prospect Lone'er Kavanagh.

The match up has been highly scrutinized as Kavanagh is coming off his first professional loss. Despite being knocked out in his last fight he has earned a main event spot against a top contender in Moreno.

Many fans are questioning weather Kavanagh even deserves the opportunity. Lone'er Kavanagh has only had 3 UFC bouts under his belt and only 10 professional bouts.

There is no doubt the prospect is very skilled, looking sharp and dominating his first 2 bouts. It is not a good sign that the last time the UFC gave him a step up in competition, the prospect was unable to come thru.

The UFC has done him no favors here either, giving him an even bigger step up in competition under the bright lights of a Main event spot. Brandon Moreno is coming into the match up hungry as ever, on the heels of the first knockout loss of his career.

The loss is not one to be ashamed of though, as it came at the hands of top prospect and current title challenger Tatsuro Taira. At just 32 years old, it is hard for me to believe Moreno has lost a step or is done with the sport.

Moreno is a very skilled striker with great wrestling prowess. He will provide a huge test in all areas of MMA for the prospect, and will look to get back in the win column in a big Main Event.

Brandon Moreno vs Lone'er Kavanagh Odds:

  • Moneyline: Brandon Moreno (-200) vs Lone'er Kavanagh (+170)
  • Round Total: 4.5 Total Rounds – Over (-135) / Under (+115)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Brandon Moreno By Points (+175)

Veteran Marlon Vera Takes On Mexican Prospect David Martinez

Longtime UFC veteran Marlon Chito Vera will take on the rising Mexican prospect David Martinez in a big Co – Main event spot. The match up will mark the first Co – Main event for the prospect, even though it is just a 3 round bout and not the typical 5 rounds.

The fact that it is just a 3 round bout greatly favors Martinez as Chito has notoriously been a slow starter. Vera has his back against the wall here coming off 3 straight decision losses.

It seems as if Vera is his own worse enemy as his past 2 bouts have been extremely close & Vera was unable to land more volume to secure the win. The fan favorite needs to get back in the Win column here if he has any hopes of title contention & may be fighting for his job at this point.

Will Vera Find His Way Back Into The Win Column?

Vera has had an impressive career with an exciting highlight reel. A fast twitch striker with versatile attacks, he should provide a big test for the upcoming prospect.

Martinez has quickly made a splash in the UFC, winning his first 2 bouts in the promotion. Even in taking a big step up in competition in his last bout against Rob Font, the prospect styled on him and won a very clear decision.

The prospect has quickly impressed UFC brass with his fast hands and high fight IQ. Clearly the UFC believes in him and are pushing him here by giving him a big Co – Main event spot against a seasoned veteran.

Martinez will get exactly the fight he wants here against Vera who is primarily a striker. I expect this bout to be an exciting kickboxing match for 3 rounds, with the higher volume fighter being the winner on one side or the other.

Marlon Vera vs David Martinez Odds:

  • Moneyline: Marlon Vera (+260) vs David Martinez (-310)
  • Round Total: 2.5 Total Rounds – Over (-400) / Under (+316)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: David Martinez By Points (-215)
