Main Event: Movsar Evloev vs Lerone Murphy Preview – Featherweight

Movsar Evloev will make his long awaited return to the octagon today to take on UK prospect Lerone Murphy. The bout is sure to determine the next title shot in the Featherweight division as top contenders square off.

MMA fans have not seen Evloev in action since 2024 as the prospect has been on almost a 2 year lay off due to injury. Despite being ranked in the top of the division still, many fans are questioning weather he deserves this #1 contender fight in the first place.

In his 9 fight UFC career Evloev has gone undefeated but it is often overshadowed due to no memorable moments. The Russian prospect has heavily relied on his wrestling and top control to secure wins.

While going 9-0 all 9 fights have gone to decision which adds to some of the reasoning behind having no memorable moments. Evloev has seemingly had a big problem finishing his opponents to make himself shine in a stacked division.

It must even be said that there weren't any moments where Evloev was even close to finishing a fight. His grapple heavy style is very boring to many MMA fans and judges which does nothing to add to his title case.

Will Evloev Finally Make A Statement?

There is no doubt Evloev will have to come out here and make a splash with a big finish to earn the title shot. If Evloev goes out there tonight and grapples Murphy for 5 rounds with no highlight reel moments, it is hard to believe he will be rewarded with a title shot.

The Russian will have no easy task on his hands as he takes on hometown favorite Lerone Murphy. On the contrary to his counter part, Murphy is riding the momentum of a huge highlight reel victory.

Murphey landed a massive spinning elbow against Aaron Pico for an exciting finish. The KO was in contention for "KO Of The Year" at last years UFC rewards.

The UK prospect has certainly made a better case for himself to get a title shot. Murphy has gone 9-0-1 inside the UFC, with 3 knock out victories on his rise to the top.

Personally I thought he has done enough to earn himself a title shot as it sits. Clearly the UFC would like to test his grappling ability before throwing him into the fire with Alexander Volkanovski.

The Co – Main event of UFC London will be an exciting match up of featherweights. Highly touted prospect Luke Riley will take on Michael Aswell in a big spot for both prospects.

Despite this being just his second UFC bout, the UFC is thrusting Luke Riley into a headlining spot right away. It seems as if he is getting the UFC push due to his UK stardom and they are fast tracking him.

Riley has made a name for himself on the UK MMA scene for having devastating KO power. The prospect got his start on the UK Promotion "Cage Warriors" where he went undefeated but did not win the title due to his UFC call up.

In his first shot with the UFC Riley impressed many in a featured preliminary card bout. He had to overcome some grappling adversary in the first round to find the flashy knockout over Bogdan Grad in the second round.

The flashy knockout gave fans some insight as to just how much power Riley carries in his hands. The bout unfortunately also showed his biggest weakness at this point, his defensive grappling.

Will Riley Make A Splash Infront Of The Hometown Crowd?

Lucky for him or by the UFC design, Riley will take on a fellow striker in Michael Aswell who will not have plans to grapple. Aswell is a heavy handed prospect that has been paying his dues since joining the UFC.

MMA fans first saw Aswell in action on Dana White's Contender series, losing a close decision to a common opponent in Bogdan Grad. The Decision left many fans upset as many MMA fans thought Aswell won the bout by landing a lot more damage against grad.

The loss did not deter the prospect as he went on to a win in the regional scene before getting a UFC call again. Aswell then stepped in on short notice to take on Bolaji Oki where he also lost a close decision.

The short notice fill in earned him a contract and he went on to win his next bout in impressive fashion. Looking to roll the momentum of a huge win into another big performance, Aswell will have a tall task in front of him with the striking ability of Riley.
