Featured Prelim: Chidi Njokuani vs Carlos Leal Preview – Welterweight

UFC Houston Anthony Hernandez vs Sean Strickland Preliminary Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

Exciting Featured Bout Of the Evening

The Featured Preliminary bout of the evening is an exciting match up between talented strikers. Carlos Leal will make his return against the veteran Chidi Njokuani.

The last time MMA fans saw Leal in action he was quickly knocked out against power striker Muslim Salikhov. The KO loss came as a surprise to many as Leal has been in many wars over the years without ever showing chin concerns.

Leal made a splash on the scene with a fantastic performance against Rinat Fakhretdinov where he flashed his striking and cardio. Unfortunately Leal lost the decision although everyone who watched the fight knows he was robbed in the decision.

Now he has a tall task in front of him, literally, against Chidi Njokuani Saturday night. Njokuani is also looking to get back into the win column after being submitted in his last fight to Jake Mathews.

The 37 year old kickboxer was on quite the winning streak before the loss, ripping off 3 wins in a row. In a career resurgence the veteran proved he still holds big power in his hands and has not lost a step.

A big factor in the match up will be the weight cut, as Njokuani is massive for the division. At 37 years old the weight cut will only get worse and it will be important to see if Njokuani will have the energy to keep up with a younger Carlos Leal.

Chidi Njokuani vs Carlos Leal Odds:

  • Moneyline: Chidi Njokuani (+105) vs Carlos Leal (-125)
  • Round Total: 1.5 Total Rounds – Over (+115) / Under (-135)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Chidi Njokuani By KO/TKO (+160)

Ode Osbourne vs Alibi Idiris – Flyweight

UFC Houston Anthony Hernandez vs Sean Strickland Preliminary Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

Flyweight Bout Leading Up To The Featured Prelim

UFC veteran Ode Osbourne will take on the new comer Alibi Idiris on Saturday night. Welcoming Idiris to the UFC, Osbourne will be a great test in Idiris official UFC debut.

Idiris is a very talented fighter who first made his appearance on The Ultimate Fighter. The prospect put together a few great performances and earned a spot in the TUF finale at UFC 319.

Unfortunately Idiris did not come away with the win, being submitted in the second round. The UFC clearly liked what they saw though as Idiris was officially signed despite losing the TUF finale.

I believe this proves the UFC's faith in him as well as giving him this big step up in competition against Osbourne. In his 12 fight tenure within the UFC Osbourne has fought some of the best the Flyweight division has to offer.

With a record of just 5-7 I believe this shines more light on his level of competition then his skills. The fast twitch striker has finished 3 of his wins by impressive knock outs.

This match up should be a great opportunity for Idiris to show off his striking skills against a seasoned veteran. Historically Osbourne has struggled to defend takedowns as well & Idiris could take the path of least resistance here to dominate the match up.

Ode Osbourne vs Alibi Idiris Odds:

  • Moneyline: Ode Osbourne (+110) vs Alibi Idiris (-130)
  • Round Total: 1.5 Total Rounds – Over (-200) / Under (+174)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Alibi Idiris By Points (+215)

Alden Coria vs Luis Garule Preview – Flyweight

In an exciting match up of Flyweights Alden Coria will take on Luis Garule Saturday night. The match up is particularly interesting considering Garules start to his UFC career.

The UFC has done Garule no favors here despite losing his first 2 fights with the promotion. Garule earned himself a contract on The Contender series but has not looked the same since, dropping back to back fights.

In recent history the UFC has had a very short tolerance for new prospects. There is no doubt in my mind Garule is fighting for his job in this match up as this is probably the last fight he is under contract for.

No small task stands in front of him as Coria is a red hot prospect carrying a lot of momentum. The prospect impressed many in his UFC debut, securing a brutal KO victory over a proven Veteran in Alessandro Costa.

In the bout his cardio shined thru, carrying his power late into the fight. Coria showed flashes of greatness with technical striking, footwork and counter punches.

The match up actually favors him considering Garule has some chin concerns being knocked out in his debut. MMA fans across the globe are excited to see if Garule can bounce back or if Coria will prove he is the real deal.

Alden Coria vs Luis Garule Odds:

  • Moneyline: Alden Coria (-280) vs Luis Garule (+240)
  • Round Total: 2.5 Total Rounds – Over (-155) / Under (+135)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Alden Coria By Points (+135)

Nora Cornolle vs Joselyn Edwards Preview – Women's Bantamweight

UFC Houston Anthony Hernandez vs Sean Strickland Preliminary Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

The Second Installment To The Match Up

An exciting Womens match up lies on the prelims between heavy hitting Bantamweights. Nora Cornolle will take on Joselyn Edwards for the second time.

The first match up took place in Cornolle's back yard of France, where Cornolle was able to secure a decision victory. In the 2 years since the bout each fighter seems to be on different career trajectories.

Cornolle went on to split her next 4 fights, going 2-2 in the run & currently coming off a loss. On the flip side Edwards has vastly improved her game and is now riding a 3 fight win streak.

I believe this is what is affecting this betting line most, as Cornolle being a big underdog in a fight she has already won does not make to much sense. It is most likely due to the youth & momentum lying on the Edwards side.

This time the bout is in Edwards back yard as well while Cornolle is the one that has to take the long flight from France. The first match up was a barn burner with both fighters willing to brawl it out, I expect this one to be no different.

Nora Cornolle vs Joselyn Edwards Odds:

  • Moneyline: Nora Cornolle (+255) vs Joselyn Edwards (-305)
  • Round Total: 2.5 Total Rounds – Over (-280) / Under (+230)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Joselyn Edwards By Points (-150)

Ramiz Brahimaj vs Punahele Soriano Preview – Welterweight

UFC Houston Anthony Hernandez vs Sean Strickland Preliminary Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

Rising Contenders Face Off

In a battle of resurging prospects Ramiz Brahimaj will take on Punahele Soriano Saturday night. Each prospect has had their ups & downs in the UFC, with each not having the best start to their UFC careers.

Brahimaj has been on a tear as of late, the winner of 3 straight with 3 straight finishes. MMA fans have grown a strong admiration for him as he has cashed as a big underdog in all 3 bouts surprising many.

Although he is riding a wave of momentum in the match up Brahimaj started his UFC career going 2-2 against lower competition. Since it appears he has turned a corner in his career and put together 3 solid performances in a row to become a rising prospect.

Even in these impressive wins he has shown weakness in his takedown defense which D3 All American Wrestler Soriano can exploit. Soriano is an exciting prospect that has also had a shaky start to his career.

In his first few bouts in the promotion Soriano was cutting a lot of weight to fight down in the Lightweight division. The idea was to use his wrestling and size advantage in the division to make a run at the title.

The weight cut has become to much for him & he has now made a home for himself at Welterweight. The rising contender is also on a 3 fight winning streak but unlike his counter part Brahimaj, Soriano has only finished 1 of those wins.

There is no doubt Soriano has turned a corner in his career despite not finishing. The prospect has worked on his cardio & his fight IQ to secure a win by any means possible which could help him here with a clear path to victory in the wrestling.

Ramiz Brahimaj vs Punahele Soriano Odds:

  • Moneyline: Ramiz Brahimaj (-120) vs Punahele Soriano (+100)
  • Round Total: 2.5 Total Rounds – Over (+145) / Under (-165)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Ramiz Brahimaj By Submission (+150)

Jean Paul Lebosnoyani vs Phil Rowe Preview – Welterweight

UFC Houston Anthony Hernandez vs Sean Strickland Preliminary Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

The Last Bout Of The Early Preliminary Card

The Final bout of the early preliminary card features a highly anticipated debut. Jean Paul Lebosnoyani will make the walk for the first time when he takes on UFC veteran Phil Rowe.

The prospect garnered a lot of attention and hype with a brutal KO victory on contender series in September. The impressive knockout earned him a contract and big step up in competition.

Phil Rowe is no slouch and has been with the UFC for 8 fights now. He has gone 4-4 in that run with a few wins over top competition.

Rowe is an interesting match up for anyone due to his unusual reach and size for the division. The veteran can be tricky in striking exchanges due to it, yet struggles in the grappling department.

Lebosnoyani is primarily a grappler to begin with but has recently just starting to find confidence in his hands. Phil Rowe should provide the perfect test for the UFC to see just how ready Lebosnoyani is for the bright lights.

Jean – Paul Lebosnoyani vs Phil Rowe Odds:

  • Moneyline: Jean – Paul Lebosnoyani (-205) vs Phil Rowe (+175)
  • Round Total: 2.5 Total Rounds – Over (+115) / Under (-135)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Jean Paul Lebosnoyani By Submission (+250)

Yadier del Valle vs Jordan Leavitt Preview – Featherweight

UFC Houston Anthony Hernandez vs Sean Strickland Preliminary Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

Interesting Featherweight Match Up

An interesting featherweight match up will help kick off the card Saturday Night. Controversial new comer Yadier del Valle will welcome Jordan Leavitt to the featherweight division.

Yadier del Valle saw massive controversy in his last submission win which over shadowed his performance. Unusual betting activity occurred before the bout and now the bout is under FBI investigation.

It is unclear if del Valle was connected to the betting activity in any way, none the less it should be a concern for betters. The big part being overshadowed is that del Valle has now put together multiple good performances to cement himself as a legit prospect.

Jordan Leavitt is the perfect test for a grappling specialist as he is a Jiu Jitsu nerd himself. In his career Leavitt has typically only fought in the lightweight division but is dropping down to Featherweight.

The move comes in hopes he will be able to use his size more to dominate grappling exchanges. Leavitt has shown great wrestling and control in the UFC but the striking is very lack luster.

This bout will give del Valle the opportunity to shine past the allegations and make another statement in the divison. Leavitt should provide the exact grappling test to see just how legit of a prospect del Valle is.

Yadier del Valle vs Jordan Leavitt Odds:

  • Moneyline: Yadier del Valle (-400) vs Jordan Leavitt (+330)
  • Round Total: 1.5 Total Rounds – Over (-150) / Under (+130)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Yadier del Valle By KO/TKO (+160)

Carli Judice vs Juliana Miller Preview – Womens Flyweight

UFC Houston Anthony Hernandez vs Sean Strickland Preliminary Card Preview, Odds, Watch Info & FAQ

Opening Bout Of The Fight Card

Exciting prospect Carli Judice will make her return to the Octagon against former Ultimate Fighter winner Juliana Miller. Judice has made a splash on the scene after a few very exciting performances in the UFC.

The prospect has shown flashy striking on her way to back to back knockout victories. A rarity in the Women's flyweight division which has only added to her hype.

The only down side to Judice has been her grappling which shows how green she is to MMA. She will draw a tough match up against Miller who is a very skilled BJJ artist.

A big body for the Flyweight division, Miller impressed many when she won the Ultimate fighter finale. She has used her size and wrestling to find sucess within the UFC.

Despite winning the Ultimate fighter, Miller has struggled to start her career losing back to back fights after the win. She does carry some momentum here as she is coming off her first official UFC win.

The striking of Miller is very worrisome as it also shows how green she is to MMA. The UFC knows exactly what they are doing here with the contrast of styles and it should shape up to be an exciting bout!

Carli Judice vs Juliana Miller Odds:

  • Moneyline: Carli Judice (-750) vs Juliana Miller (+550)
  • Round Total: 2.5 Total Rounds – Over (+140) / Under (-160)
  • Most Likely Method Of Victory: Carli Judice By KO/TKO (-160)
