Pennsylvania's online sportsbooks recorded a strong year-over-year (YoY) revenue increase in June 2025, signaling steady momentum for the state's betting industry.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board recently revealed that combined online and retail sportsbooks earned $66.8 million in profits, up 51.8% from June 2024. Taxable revenue hit $51.2 million, marking an impressive 71.4% year-over-year surge.
Pennsylvania sports betting operators posted a strong performance in June, recording a hefty 13.8% hold on the $483.6 million handle. The month proved highly profitable for sportsbooks, fueled by the NBA and NHL Finals and a busy MLB schedule.
Compared to June 2024, handle rose by a modest 4.1%, marking the lowest total wagered since August 2024. Of the overall handle, over $460 million came from online sports betting, while retail sportsbooks accounted for approximately $23 million.
Which PA Online Sportsbook Operators Performed Well?
FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM continued to lead the market, with FanDuel holding the top spot in revenue and total bets with $162.2 million June handle and $28.3 million revenue. DraftKings had $130.5 million in June handle and $17.8 million in revenue, while BetMGM tallied $46 million in handle and $4.3 million in revenue.
Since launching in 2024, Fanatics Sportsbook has established itself as a strong competitor and maintained that momentum in June. It ranked fourth in total handle, trailing only industry leaders, reaping $35 million in handle and $5.4 million revenue. Notably, it achieved the second-highest hold rate among online operators at 14.8%. These operators benefited from major events like the NBA Finals and early MLB season action.
Moreover, the growth reflects a broader trend seen in the national sports betting landscape. Other states have also reported YoY gains, with Pennsylvania remaining one of the top performers.
Industry analysts point to improved user experience and innovative promotional campaigns as key drivers of the June performance. Additionally, increased customer retention strategies have helped operators maintain steady activity during slower sports periods.
Increased mobile engagement also contributed to the growth. Operators have focused on app improvements, faster payouts, and deeper in-game betting options. These changes have boosted user satisfaction and repeat wagering.
Will This Trend Continue?
Looking ahead, experts anticipate continued gains in the third quarter. With NFL preseason approaching and new user signups rising, momentum could accelerate further.
While revenue was slightly down from May 2025's totals, the YoY jump reassures stakeholders about long-term stability. June's figures show resilience even during non-peak seasons.
Pennsylvania's tax revenue from online sportsbooks also rose, delivering nearly $13.7 million to the state. These funds support education programs and local government services.
June 2025 marked another strong chapter for Pennsylvania's online sportsbooks. Sustained year-on-year growth highlights the industry's expansion and ongoing consumer demand in the digital betting space.
