Licensed Ontario online casinos have recorded their second-highest monthly revenue ever in April 2025. According to iGaming Ontario (iGO), 49 online casinos and sportsbooks earned $313.3 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR). This figure represents a 5.8% increase from March's $296 million and a 25.3% rise year-over-year.
April 2025 now ranks as the second-best month for operator revenue in Ontario's 37-month regulated market history. Only January 2025, with $328.4 million, saw higher earnings. iGO defines NAGGR as total wagers, including fees, minus player winnings.
Although April's gaming volume dipped slightly from March's record $7.96 billion to $7.79 billion, year-over-year growth remained strong. Compared to April 2024, this year's handle increased by 26.4%. As of April 30, 2025, Ontario had 1.09 million active player accounts. Each account generated an average operator revenue of $287.
Ontario Online Casinos Are Big Winners in April
Online casino gaming led the market in April, driving 84% of player spending at $6.58 billion. The best Canada online casinos also generated 78% of gross revenue, totaling $242.8 million for the month.
Year-over-year, player spending rose 29.4%, while operator revenue jumped 35.4%. This revenue growth clearly outpaced the increase in spending within the online casino vertical.
April 2025 set a new record for the highest monthly online casino revenue in Ontario's regulated market history. iGaming Ontario includes slots, table games, live dealer games, and peer-to-peer bingo in its online casino category.
However, the same cannot be said for Ontario's sports betting industry. According to reports, sports betting spending hit $1.07 billion in April, marking the second-lowest total since last October.
This amount dropped 10% from March, but rose 14.1% compared to April 2024. Sports betting revenue reached $64.5 million, rebounding 34% from March's poor performance.
However, revenue still dipped 0.9% year-over-year despite increased betting activity. For the second consecutive month, online sportsbooks earned less than the same period in 2024.
In March, revenue was $48 million – down 6.1% from the $51.1 million reported in March 2024.
Ontario Players Have Been Spending Big on iGaming
As of April 2025, Ontarians have wagered $189.3 billion on online casinos, sports betting, and poker. Licensed Canada online casino operators earned nearly $7.4 billion in that time. This revenue has generated close to $1.5 billion in taxes for the province.
That said, iGaming Ontario's reports exclude activity from Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) platforms. OLG, though government-run, functions as the market's unofficial 50th licensed operator. It reportedly holds about 20% of Ontario's regulated online gambling revenue share.
