WNBA Night: Sky vs Liberty Picks & Odds | May 23, 2024

We have 3 games on the WNBA slate tonight and we're going to go to Brooklyn. The Chicago Sky (1-1) are in town tonight to face the New York Liberty (4-0). New York is the defending Eastern Conference champs.

Great start to the season for the Liberty, currently on a 4-game heater. Their 1st game of the season, the won by only 5 points but have won by 11+ point in each of the other 3. That includes a 36-point blowout of the Fever last Thursday.

New York's core has returned and look great. Brenna Stewart, the reigning MVP, is already averaging 19.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. Jonquel Jones has been busy under the basket as well, averaging 9.5 rebounds per game so far.

Sabrina Ionescu leads the back court for the team. She and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton have been playing well, both averaging just about 15 points per game in 31 minutes of game time. It'd be nice to see more out of Courtney Vandersloot, but it is still early.

Chicago will look for ways to slow down the Liberty to contend

This Sky team lost their best player this off season in Kahleah Copper. In the draft, they did land one of the bigger prospects, which was Angel Reese.

Chicago started off their season with a back-to-back vs the Dallas Wings. They split those 2 games and are coming off a 83-74 win last game. They will look to ride that momentum into this game.

The back court for Chicago has been carrying the team. Marina Mabrey and Diamond DeShields have been playing very well. Mabrey is averaging 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while DeShields is averaging 15 points per game.

Rookie Angel Reese still has some settling down to do. She is averaging just about 12 points per game through these first 2 games but has a .348 shooting percentage. That is not good.

I like the Liberty to keep it rolling here. They really don't have much competition in front of them in this game.

Stewart and Jones are going to control down low. The Sky don't have much power to slow those 2 down. I also think Ionescu and Laney-Hamilton get their shots in, which can be dangerous for Chicago.

New York is going to come out fast and look for the early lead with some 3's. The Sky guards are very good in Mabrey and DeShields, so containing them will be at the top of the Liberty's check list.

It's a lot of points, I know. We also didn't cover the big spread last time, but we're going back to them.

Some other nuggets I like are Brenna Stewart for 20+ points, Jonquel Jones for 10+ rebounds and Sabrina Ionescu for 4+ 3-pointers.
