The English Premier League returns on Friday as Arsenal and Coventry City go head to head at Emirates Stadium. However, we are given five other matches in the EPL on Saturday to wager on, so our soccer experts broke down the slate and found their favorite picks. Remember, this is only the opening weekend of European soccer. There is a VERY long season ahead, and we want to avoid digging ourselves a hole that we'll spend the next eight months trying to climb out of. EPL Expert Picks and Predictions August 22
We have a total of five matches on this EPL slate, but I have only found picks in two of them. If you are looking for predictions and best bets in Everton vs. Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town vs. Sunderland, or Nottingham Forest vs. Leeds United, feel free to check out our EPL picks page.
However, for a couple of best bets I've actually wagered on, keep reading below.
Hull City vs. Manchester United EPL Picks and Predictions
Manchester United start off their EPL Season against Hull City on the road
Best Bet: Manchester United ML/Under 3.5 (+115) BetOnline
Starting off our EPL Saturday with a same game parlay in the early window! Manchester United begins their season on the road against one of the newcomers in the league this year, Hull City. This club has not played in the EPL in over a decade, and now they open up against one of the league's Big Six clubs. Even at home, this could be rough.
Manchester United signed Youri Tielemans this offseason, which should help boost their midfield. In theory, Manchester United have all the pieces, they just need to put it together on the pitch. I think they do so on the road, but not in completely dominant fashion. I believe Hull City will be fired up defensively, trying to keep this as low scoring as possible. However eventually United should flex their muscle and win, likely in a shutout.
Prediction: Manchester United Wins 2-0 (+550)
Brentford vs. Tottenham EPL Picks and Predictions
Pedro Porro is coming off a World Cup victory with Spain. Can he bring some positive mojo to Tottenham?
Best Bet: Tottenham Draw No Bet (+113) BetOnline
Look, I understand this Spurs team was inches away from relegation last year. But they have added some pieces that give me faith, plus, based on the oddsmakers thoughts, they should be up near the top of the EPL table again. Do I think they compete for the top spot? No. But they should be in the mix for qualifying for some European tournaments, therefore, much better than last season.
Tottenham also has Brentford's number. They played to a scoreless draw in January, but prior to that, Tottenham have won the past four head to head meetings outright. Why should I think anything changed? Jan Paul van Hecke and Andy Robertson come over to help Pedro Porro and Mickey van de Ven on defense, immediately making them better than last season. Offensively, we are still going to have to see it, but the motivation for this club has to be there after last season's struggles.
Look for the Spurs to surprise everyone and pull out a tough three points on the road to start the season.
Prediction: Tottenham Wins 2-1 (+875)
