For much of this season, it has looked like Arsenal's English Premier League title drought was about to end. That may well still happen, but a win for the visitors in today's Burnley vs. Manchester City matchup will see the first change at the top of the table in more than six months.

That is because things have shifted in favor of Pep Guardiola's side after consecutive 2-1 defeats for the Gunners, the first at home to Bournemouth 11 days ago and the second at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

That latter result took City to 67 points from 32 games, while Arsenal remained on 70 points with one more game played.

City's game in hand is tonight's trip to Turf Moor, and collecting three points by any margin will see them move top by either goal difference or goals scored.

The stay at the top may be brief, with Arsenal in league action this weekend against Newcastle and City in the FA Cup semifinals against Southampton. But the pressure will be squarely on the longtime league leaders, who have a divided focus at present. In addition to the heat turning up domestically, the Gunners face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League semifinals, with the first leg next Wednesday in the Spanish capital.

Therefore, Arsenal could do with a little help tonight. Relegation beckons for Burnley, and defeat tonight vs. Manchester City will officially book a ticket back to the second division. A draw or a win will only delay the inevitable, but it will at least provide something to cheer about on the way down.

However, the odds and recent history are both not in their favor. At Lucky Rebel and other top online sportsbooks, the Citizens are firmly favored to continue their run of dominance over the Clarets.

Burnley vs. Manchester City Prediction and Analysis

Should we expect anything other than a comfortable win for City?

The Clarets have just four league wins this season, and only one of those, a wild 3-2 win at Crystal Palace on February 11, has come in their last 24 games. Since that win at Selhurst Park, Burnley is on a seven-match winless run in the league (and lost at home to League One side Mansfield Town in the FA Cup).

In addition to disastrous form, Burnley has not fared well at all vs. Manchester City.

A 5-1 defeat at the Etihad in September was the Clarets' 11th consecutive Premier League defeat to City and their 14th consecutive overall. The last time Burnley achieved a positive result against City was February 3, 2018, a 1-1 draw in the league.

This Burnley side is a far cry from that one, which finished seventh. This Burnley side is continuing the club's recent yo-yo trend of getting promoted only to immediately return to the Championship.

Even a win tonight won't change that outcome unless a miracle occurs, but can they plant some seeds of doubt for City?

City hasn't blown a lot of teams out of the water this season, and if Burnley can remain level through the first 45 minutes, you never know what can happen.

That said, wrestling the title away from Arsenal is City's clear focus, even with the FA Cup still in play. I don't see a slip happening tonight, and I don't see them taking the scenic route to victory, either. Look for a bright start, a 12th consecutive league win over Burnley, and a place atop the table at the end of the night for the Citizens.

Burnley vs. Manchester City Picks

Manchester City -2.5 (+109 at Lucky Rebel)

Matheus Nunes to Score or Assist a Goal (+175 at Lucky Rebel)

Of City's 11 consecutive league wins over Burnley, only one has not come by multiple goals, and six have come by three or more goals. Additionally, eight of those 11 wins have come with a clean sheet for City, including four of their five consecutive league wins at Turf Moor.

Backing a shutout win for City carries some appeal (and the odds are decent), but I actually like the spread here. Goal difference could prove to be very valuable in the title race, and this is an opportunity for City (+36) to put a few goals between themselves and Arsenal (+37), as well as pad their current advantage in goals scored.

Contributions on that front could come from any of a host of names tonight, but I like the value with Nunes, who assisted on Rayan Cherki's 16th-minute opener on Sunday and scored (his lone Premier League goal of the season to date) against Burnley in the win in September.

Nunes has been a fixture in Pep Guardiola's starting XI, and if recent trends continue, he will not only start but play 90 minutes. When City should have numerous scoring chances tonight, I like his chances to make the most of those minutes and contribute either a goal or an assist.
