The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) has joined forces with the Responsible Gambling Council (RGC) to launch a new certification for online operators. The initiative targets online casino and real money online casino platforms, raising standards for player protection and promoting safer gambling practices.
Together, ROGA and RGC are building a data-driven framework that measures operators across self-exclusion tools, staff training, player support, and marketing practices. The certification sets tougher requirements than current state and provincial rules, creating a higher benchmark for responsible gaming.
Dr. Jennifer Shatley, executive director of ROGA, underscored the partnership's impact,
Shatley noted that ROGA members remain committed to long-term progress. With RGC's support, the program signals industry actions that help players make more informed choices about the platforms they use.
The program demands ongoing accountability, ensuring operators maintain high standards after certification. By combining RGC's RG Check expertise with ROGA's wide membership base, the initiative could reshape much of the real money online casino industry.
Sarah McCarthy, CEO of RGC, reinforced this point,
"The new certification program will build on years of evidence-based work and experience building RG Check as a trusted standard. By working together, we are creating a more transparent, accountable, and player-focused industry."
Once the framework is finalized, the ROGA will evaluate all member operators. Moreover, both organizations also plan to outline participation options for non-members, broadening industry adoption.
As a result, the certification is expected to extend its influence across North America.
Profiles of ROGA and RGC
ROGA launched in March 2024 as an operator-led group representing leading gaming companies. Members include bet365, BetMGM, DraftKings, FanDuel, Bally's, Fanatics, Hard Rock Digital, and PENN Entertainment.
Collectively, they handle about 90% of the U.S. legal sports betting market. ROGA also commits more than $20 million to responsible gaming research and player protection, reflecting its pledge to safer play.
RGC, headquartered in Toronto, is an independent non-profit with over 40 years of experience in responsible gambling. The group created RG Check, a widely trusted accreditation used by land-based and iGaming operators worldwide.
In Ontario, every licensed real money online casino must hold RG Check accreditation. This will be valid for three years and requiring a complete reassessment.
By combining ROGA's industry scale with RGC's proven expertise, the partnership strengthens responsible gaming across North America and sets a new standard for the industry.
