His win carried additional significance, as he became just the third Peruvian player to win a WSOP gold bracelet. After decades on the tournament circuit, he finally secured poker's most prestigious prize and added his name to his country's poker history.
Rodriguez's breakthrough came shortly after becoming eligible for seniors events. The victory also highlighted the growing popularity of high-stakes seniors tournaments.

Juan Rodriguez's Performance at the Final Table
Rodriguez entered the final table among a seasoned group of competitors and steadily separated himself from the field.
Luke Graham was the first player eliminated, collecting $67,130 for eighth place. Kenneth Kim followed in seventh for $88,469, while Arie Kliper exited in sixth place for $118,541.
Rodriguez continued accumulating chips as the table shortened. Filipino player Marc Rivera made an impressive run before finishing fifth for $161,446.
One of the most pivotal eliminations came when Chad Lipton fell in fourth place for $223,439. Rodriguez later identified Lipton as the toughest opponent he faced during the tournament.
Qing Lu secured a podium finish worth $314,158 before departing in third place. His elimination left Rodriguez and Nariman Yaghmai to battle for the bracelet and the top prize.
Rodriguez Overcomes Yaghmai in Dramatic Heads-Up Battle
Yaghmai began heads-up play with a slight chip advantage, but Rodriguez quickly reversed the momentum.
Several key pots swung in Rodriguez's favor, allowing him to build a lead. From there, he applied relentless pressure and forced Yaghmai into difficult decisions.
The tournament reached its conclusion in dramatic fashion. Rodriguez moved all-in holding K♣8♣, and Yaghmai called with A♦3♥. The board initially favored Yaghmai's ace-high holding, leaving Rodriguez searching for help.
As friends and supporters on the rail chanted for a king, the river delivered the saving card. The K♠ completed Rodriguez's comeback and secured the championship, sending his rail into celebration.
After receiving his first bracelet, Rodriguez took a moment to admire the trophy he had chased throughout his career.
"It's absolutely gorgeous. It's more beautiful than I thought it was going to be. I didn't want to look at it because I didn't want it to be one of those situations where it feels like a mirage and not real, but once I saw it, I was astonished. I thought it was beautiful."
