Matthew Blagg finally added a major live title to his poker résumé after winning the 2026 $1,700 WSOP Circuit Horseshoe Las Vegas Main Event.

The Vista, California native defeated a talented field to earn his first WSOP Circuit gold ring and a career-best $238,470 payday.

Blagg entered the tournament with a strong reputation as an online grinder but had never captured a live tournament title. That changed in Las Vegas, where he completed an impressive comeback after nearly busting on Day 1B.

The event attracted 936 entries, generating a $1,298,780 prize pool. Blagg's victory also earned him 912 CardPlayer Player of the Year points, further strengthening his position in the season-long race.

His breakthrough highlights another successful transition from online poker to the live circuit, a path many players first begin through US online poker sites before testing themselves against elite tournament fields.

Matthew Blagg Battles Through a Stacked Final Table

Blagg returned for the final table with several accomplished opponents still in contention for the title.

Philip Lucia was the first player eliminated in ninth place before Eric Thompkins exited eighth. Shawn Daniels followed in seventh, while Jingyang He finished sixth after falling short of a late comeback.

Jack Duong's fifth-place finish reduced the field to four players. Soon afterward, Eric Yanovsky eliminated Jia Chi Li in fourth place when his pocket kings held against Li's pocket sixes.

The three-handed play featured Blagg, Daniel Lei, and Yanovsky. Lei eventually bowed out in third, sending Blagg into a heads-up match against Yanovsky for the championship.

Throughout the final table, Blagg remained patient while capitalizing on key opportunities. His disciplined approach allowed him to steadily build a commanding stack entering the final duel.

Blagg Defeats Eric Yanovsky to Capture His First WSOPC Ring

The heads-up match showcased two aggressive players who exchanged pots before the tournament reached its defining moment.

The decisive hand developed on a board of 7♦ 5♣ 4♣ 9♠. Yanovsky moved all in holding 8♠2♠ for an open-ended straight draw and a flush draw. Blagg immediately called with 4♠4♥, having flopped a set of fours.

The J♦ river failed to complete Yanovsky's draws, giving Blagg the pot, the championship, and his first WSOP Circuit gold ring.

"I knew he was very good, and I don't know who is better between me or him," Blagg said of his heads-up opponent. "I was just trying not to make any huge mistakes."

A Remarkable Comeback Sparked Blagg's Championship Run

Blagg admitted the victory carried extra meaning because it marked his first live tournament title after years of online success.

His tournament nearly ended during Day 1B. At the dinner break, he held fewer chips than the starting stack and needed a dramatic turnaround.

That turnaround arrived in spectacular fashion during a four-way preflop all-in. Blagg held A♥K♥ against opponents holding pocket kings, pocket queens, and pocket jacks.

A four-heart board delivered him the nut flush, allowing him to scoop a massive pot and completely change the trajectory of his tournament.

Blagg rode that momentum through the remainder of the event before finishing the job at the final table.

"It feels good to have some jewelry," Blagg said immediately following the win. "On dinner break [on Day 1B], I had less than starting stack and just caught fire from there."

The victory gives Blagg both the largest live score of his career and his first piece of WSOP Circuit hardware. It also validates years of success in online poker by adding a marquee live title to his résumé.

With his first WSOP Circuit ring now secured, Blagg has established himself as a proven winner on both the virtual and live felt. His breakthrough in Las Vegas demonstrated resilience, patience, and timely aggression against one of the strongest fields on the 2026 WSOP Circuit schedule.
