Alex Foxen has solidified his status as a poker legend by capturing the 2025 PokerGO Tour (PGT) Player of the Year. Foxen secured the title following a dramatic photo finish during the season's final series.
He battled the world's most elite players to earn this prestigious honor. His relentless consistency throughout the year allowed him to climb the rankings. This victory marks a career-high achievement for the American high-stakes professional.
How Alex Foxen Won the 2025 PGT Player of the Year Award
Foxen's journey to the top of the leaderboard featured several massive scores and high-stakes trophies. His largest single PGT point-earning result occurred during the 2025 World Series of Poker.
He then finished second in the $250,000 Super High Roller for $3,060,314 and 600 PGT points. Foxen also added major victories in the PGT Poker Masters in September. He followed this with a win in the PGT PLO Series II in October.
The champion now has 12 career PGT titles to his name. Foxen closed out the season during the PGT Last Chance series with two critical cashes. After an eighth-place finish in Event #3, POY honors hung in the balance.
Foxen needed to finish in fourth place or higher in the final tournament to pass Sam Soverel. He surged ahead by winning the tournament outright, earning $232,400 for the victory.

Dramatic Championship Win at the PGT Last Chance Series
The season concluded with the PGT Last Chance series at the PokerGO Studio. Foxen entered the final event needing a victory to overtake Sam Soverel. The Event #6 turbo-format created an intense atmosphere for all participants.
Foxen reached a star-studded final table featuring Josh Arieh and Andrew Lichtenberger. Early in the action, Mike Zulker fell in seventh place.
Foxen personally intensified the pressure on his opponents as the blinds escalated. He avoided elimination during several crucial all-in confrontations against Brandon Wilson.
After Lichtenberger exited in third, Foxen faced Wilson in a tense heads-up duel.
Foxen picked up $A♥Q♥$ in the final hand of the series. He faced a button shove from Wilson, who held $J♥10♠$.
After Foxen called, the board came down $7♦6♥5♥9♠5♦$. Foxen's ace-high earned him the pot and the title. Meanwhile, Wilson took home $149,400 as the runner-up. He now has $446,850 in total series earnings thanks to his success at this festival.
Foxen overcame a significant chip deficit to claim his 12th career PGT title. This win officially catapulted him into the first-place position for the year. He celebrated the victory alongside his wife, Kristen, who also finished in the top ten.
