The 2024 NBA Finals came to an end on Monday and the Stanley Cup Final series could be next. The Florida Panthers have the chance to win the first championship in franchise history tonight when they host the Edmonton Oilers for Game 5 at 8 p.m. ET.
The Oilers staved off elimination over the week with a huge 8-1 victory over the Panthers in Game 4. Connor McDavid led the charge with a four-point night (1 G, 3 A) as the three-time Hart Memorial Trophy broke Wayne Gretzky’s record for most assists in a playoff run.
Can Edmonton force lightning to strike twice? Or will Florida wrap up the series tonight?
Let’s answer those questions by diving into my Oilers vs. Panthers Game 5 predictions and best bets for the Stanley Cup Final.

Oilers vs Panthers NHL Game 5 Predictions & Pick (6/18)
A lot of people wrote the Oilers off after dropping three consecutive games to begin this series, but here we are. They’re now heading back to Florida as the aim is to cut the Panthers’ Stanley Cup Final lead down to one game.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the Oilers attempt to build off their latest momentum. Nobody expected them to blow out the Panthers over the weekend, especially after how the first three games went. Edmonton went from scoring just four goals between Games 1 and 3 to exploding for eight in Game 4. Florida netminder Sergei Bobrovsky allowed five goals on 16 shots before being replaced by Alex Stolarz, who didn’t perform much better.
Will Panthers G Sergei Bobrovsky bounce back tonight?
The Panthers now return to Amerant Bank Arena where they’re riding a four-game winning streak. They held each of those opponents to two or fewer goals and even outscored the Oilers 7-1 on aggregate through the first two games of this series.
Having said that, the Panthers have also dropped 12 of their last 16 home games against the Oilers since the 2002-03 NHL season. Yes, Florida has won the last three meetings between these clubs at Amerant Bank Arena, but it’s clear that Edmonton knows how to win in the Sunshine State.
Still, recent results can’t be ignored. On top of having little recent success against Florida, the Oilers are 1-5 SU in their last six games against the Eastern Conference, whereas the Panthers are 8-2 SU against their last 10 Western opponents. It’s also worth noting that Edmonton has lost five of six games this season where it was the underdog against a non-conference foe.
On the flip side, Florida is 18-9-1 as the favorite against the West.
The Panthers manhandled the Eastern Conference this season.
While the Oilers kept their dreams alive the other night, I’m rolling with the Panthers in Game 5. Paul Maurice’s club will get back on track after a lackluster effort and I’m confident that Bobrovsky will look like his old self. McDavid and the Oilers will press and challenge, but this series ends tonight.
Let’s also take the Under on the 5.5-goal total. After all, the Under is 7-0 in Edmonton’s last seven road games as well as 5-1 in Florida’s last six at home. considering how the first two games of the Stanley Cup Final finished with five or fewer goals, we’re likely in for a low-scoring tilt.

Best Oilers vs Panthers NHL Game 5 Player Prop (6/18)
After this Oilers vs. Panthers player prop paid off earlier in this series, I recommend taking Evan Rodrigues o0.5 points (+131) for tonight’s Game 5 pick.
Rodrigues has been one of the Panthers’ best performers in this series as he shares the team lead with four points in as many games. The 30-year-old veteran has now finished with the Over on this prop in five of his last eight outings, registering six total points along the way. That’s without mentioning how the Over is 3-0 in his last three home games.
As long as he continues to see playing time with Florida’s best players and on the power play, I feel good about Rodrigues pulling through on this prop bet again.
