The Rangers couldn't get anything going in Game 1 as the Panthers notched a 3-0 victory to open the series. Matthew Tkachuk, Carter Verhaghe, and Sam Bennett each scored for Florida as Sergei Bobrovsky stopped each of the 24 shots sent his way.

Panthers vs Rangers NHL Game 2 Predictions & Pick (5/24)

Despite being the road team, the Panthers have the momentum ahead of tonight's contest following their Game 1 victory. Wednesday's contest marked the first time that the Rangers lost a series-opening contest in the 2023-24 playoffs.

If New York wants to bounce back tonight, it must find a way to solve Bobrovsky. The veteran netminder has had the Rangers' number for the better part of the last decade, going 9-2-1 with a 2.73 goals-against average, .913 save percentage, and two shutouts in his last 12 games against them.

Bobrovsky has also won four of his last five trips to Madison Square Garden with the only loss during that stretch taking place in a shootout.

Having said that, Game 1 was the first time that the Rangers have been shutout since December, so I fully expect the likes of Artemi Panarin, Mika Zibanejad, etc. to put forth a better effort tonight.

The Rangers need their best players to solve Panthers G Sergei Bobrovsky in Game 2. 

The Rangers also wouldn't mind if Igor Shesterkin pulled a Bobrovsky by stealing Game 2 at home. The New York goaltender only allowed two goals on 26 shots in Game 1 and one of those goals game when teammate Alexis Lafreniere accidentally tipped the puck into his own net.

The good news for the Rangers is that they can usually count on a solid performance from Shesterkin at MSG. After all, he's won seven of his last nine home starts, playing to a 2.00 GAA, .930 SV%, and a shutout along the way.

Ultimately, I see the Rangers winning tonight after losing Game 1. New York has bounced back from defeat throughout the 2023-24 campaign and this situation shouldn't be any different. I expect the Rangers to pressure on Bobrovsky early on before escaping Game 2 with a tied series.

I also wouldn't be shocked if we saw fewer than 5.5 total goals tonight. Bobrovsky and Shesterkin both played extremely well in the opener, stopping a combined 49 of 50 shots (98.0%). Until either netminder loses a step, I expect both sides to struggle to score, making the Under the right call this evening.
