It was fun to watch each country battle it out during the group stage, but now it's the most important time of these players' lives. We have Latvia taking on Sweden in this matchup and it should be interesting to see how they play facing elimination. Sweden has won three of their last four matchups.
Team Sweden went 2-1-0 in the group stage but couldn't secure a bye. Slovakia got the bye after getting the tie breaker for goal differential. They managed five goals in each of their wins vs. Slovakia and Italy. It was surprising to see the Sweds drop a game, but especially to the Fins at by a score of 4-1.
This team is pretty stacked when you look at their roster. William Nylander, Adrian Kempe and Mika Zibanejad on offense and Victor Hedman and Rasmus Dahlin on defense. If they can keep it together, they could easily be a medal contender.
It'll be interesting to see who Sweden puts in net. They got a really good showing from Jacob Markstrom after Filip Gustavsson suffered that loss to Finland. I see them going with Gustavsson in this one.

Latvia will try to find a way to win vs. talented Sweden team

Latvian Dans Locmelis celebrates scoring the team's second goal vs. Germany in the group stage.
Team Latvia has shown some hear despite a tough schedule. They started off by taking a beating to Team USA 5-1. After that, they pulled off a huge win over Germany 4-3. After, they contended vs. Denmark but couldn't find any offense in the third period.
It's not that the team is terrible, they are just outmatched. They don't have the talent of some of these other countries, so naturally they're going to struggle. Just like any other team, they'll lay it all on the line during an elimination game.
Despite the roster on offense and defense, they have ok goaltending. Elvis Merzlikins leads the way, and he has Arturs Silovs behind him. Let's check out the odds and get into the Latvia vs. Sweden picks.

Latvia vs. Sweden Picks and Prediction

Sweden teammates Erik Karlsson and William Nylander celebrate after scoring a goal.

I'm a little surprised the total is listed as an underdog. Sweden has shown they can put up goals, and this is a much weaker opponent with a lot on the line. Give Latvia one of two goals and that's what will cash this over for us.
Sweden should win this game without a problem. You can take them on the puck line for -2.5 but the value on the over has me leaning that way. The -1.5 for Sweden has no value whatsoever so you have to step it up.
In this game, I like for William Nylander to get his 3 or more shots on goal. Rasmus Dahlin has also been a huge part of this team, and I like him for 2 or more points in this game. If Sweden breaks the over like I expect, there will be a lot of value with their player props.
