This game is going to be one of the biggest of the slate. The Ottawa Senators will head to Long Island to take on the New York Islanders. Ottawa currently holds the second wild card spot, and the Islanders are one point out of the third seed in the Metro Division and three points out of the second wild card spot.
New York is 43-31-5 this season and fourth in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a huge win Thursday night over the Maple Leafs. The Islanders are 4-6-0 in their last ten games and 22-14-2 at home this season.
Their new coach Peter DeBoer got his first win with the team. The four game losing streak that led up to this point and new coach is the reason the Islanders are not in a comfortable playoff position. They must win out to make the playoffs at this rate.
Almost nothing better than controlling your own destiny. If they can win these last three games a game at a time than they just need the stars to align with some loses to competing teams. The standings are so tight that the Islanders are competing with five other teams and there's only two spots.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin is expected to get the start. He is 29-22-2 this season with a 2.66 GAA and a .908 save percentage. Sorokin really needs to get it together as of one-point last game he has only faced three shots and allowed one.

Ottawa looks to gain lead on the second wild card spot

Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin goes to make a diving save on the Ottawa Senators offender.
The Senators are 42-27-10 this year and fifth in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game on a big three-game winning streak after another win on Thursday over the Panthers. Ottawa is 6-3-1 in their last ten games and 20-15-4 on the road this season.
Ottawa is holding onto the second wild card spot by three points. The best they could do to move up would be to pass division rivals the Boston Bruins, but I don't think it happens. They're going to have to fight off the Islanders, Red Wings and Blue Jackets for it. The Flyers could also swap with the Islanders as well.
This team has a great offense led by Brady Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle. They rank eighth in the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game as well as have the eighth best power play in the league. Their defense isn't the best but does allow the third least number of shots on goal per game.
In net, we're expected to see Linus Ullmark. He is 27-12-8 this season with a 2.78 GAA and a .889 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Senators vs. Islanders picks for the game.

This game's going to be insane. Both teams are going to be playing for their lives, and this is going to be like another playoff game. I think both offenses are going to be buzzing and get to today's goaltenders multiple times.
Give me the over here. The Islanders will be up against a much better offense, but if they can keep that momentum from last game, then they'll be scoring. Both goalies can be leaky, especially Sorokin, so that's another big factor.
My hear leans with the Islanders, but I'm not sure they win this game. I don't have an officially play there because I'm so torn. I do like for Brady Tkachuk and Bo Horvat to both get 4 or more shots on goal. Both the key part of each team's offense and going to be firing the puck today.
