What could've been a very meaningful matchup is now not so much. The Detroit Red Wings will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning at Benchmark International Arena. These two teams played a month ago and the Lightning won the game 4-1.
Detroit is 41-30-9 this season and sixth in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a loss to the Devils on Saturday. The Red Wings are 3-6-1 in their last ten games, 20-14-5 on the road and 13-9-2 in divisional games.
Unfortunately for Detroit, they have been eliminated from the playoffs. After being in the top three of the division for more than half the season, they find themselves on the outside looking in. This is a huge disappointment for this team after the year they've had.
They held their own on offense this season ranking in the middle of the league for shots on goal per game and power play conversion. Detroit struggled on defense though, ranking lower in the league for shots on goal allowed per game and penalty kill rate.
Goalie John Gibson is expected to get the start. He is 29-21-4 this season with a 2.67 GAA and a .903 save percentage. Gibson was a great addition to this team having his most starts since the 2022-23 season.

Tampa will keep playing to see which seed they land on in the division

Lightning forward Gage Goncalves tries to move the puck passed the Red Wings defenseman.
The Lightning are 49-25-6 this year and are second in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a win over the Bruins on Saturday. Tampa is 5-4-1 in their last ten games, 25-13-1 at home and 15-9-1 in divisional matchup's.
They have long clinched their spot in the playoffs. It is the ninth year in a row for the Lightning to clinch a playoff spot. Right now, they're tied for second with Montreal and only two points behind Buffalo, so the seeding is yet to be set for the three teams.
Tampa really has a strong second half of the season to put themselves back in the playoffs. At certain points, they weren't even contending for a spot, but Detroit also had one for months and blew it so go figure.
In net, we're expected to see Andrei Vasilevskiy. He is 38-15-4 this season with a 2.30 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Vasi is most likely this year's Vezina Trophy winner. Let's check out the odds and get into the Red Wings vs. Lightning picks.

I think we see a very slow game here. Detroit is going to want to get the win just out of spite, but I could see a boring game here. Tampa doesn't want to risk too much but also wants that first seed. It's going to be a bit of a chess match.
For a lean, I definitely think the Lightning win this one. Like I said, they want that first seed to have the home ice advantage. The standings are so tight that it's still completely up for grabs and playing a smart game is going to be necessary to get this win.
I like for Darren Raddysh to continue to fire the puck. I like him for 3 or more shots on goal in game where there should be a lot of blue line shots. Raddysh has hit in his last three games, but may be rested due to an injury, so keep your eyes peeled.
