It's been rough the team on Long Island lately. The Toronto Maple Leafs are in town to take on the New York Islanders at UBS Arena. These two teams last played a few weeks ago and the Islanders won the game 3-1.
New York is 42-31-5 this season and fifth in the Metro Division. They come into this game on a horrible four-game losing streak after another loss on Saturday to the Hurricanes. The Islanders are 3-7-0 in their last ten games and 21-14-2 at home this year.
This four-game skid will very well put the Islanders out of the playoffs. They currently sit three points out of the second wild card and third see in the Metro. If anything helps them, it's that they have two chances to make it in, but will most likely need to win their next four games.
In response to the losing streak at the worst time of the year, the Islanders fired coach Patrick Roy. He was promptly replaced with Peter DeBoer, former coach of the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars. Both teams which he took to the cup finals but lost.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin will be between the pipes tonight. He is 28-22-2 this season with a 2.65 GAA and a .909 save percentage. New York has been over playing him, playing in their last eleven games straight. Sorokin will try to get back to mid-season form tonight.

Toronto already eliminated from the playoffs and in tank mode

Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer celebrates after scoring a game winning overtime goal vs. the Leafs this year.
The Maple Leafs are 32-32-14 this year and last in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game on a three-game losing streak after a shutout loss to the Capitals last night. Toronto is 3-5-2 in their last ten games and 14-19-6 on this road this season.
It's been a terrible season for the Leafs. They are already eliminated from playoff contention and in a spot where they're not used to being – second to last in the conference. Losing captain Auston Matthews pretty much ended the teams season a few weeks ago.
For a team stacked offensively, they've been nowhere to be found this season. It's amazing to see their struggles and makes you wonder what kind of impact Mitch Marner really had on this team. They also don't play two-way hockey.
They rank in the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal per game. In net, we're net we're expected to see rookie Artur Akhtyamov. This will be his first career start in the NHL.

I think we see an Islanders win, but a chess match from them. They need to win this game so badly that I don't think they try to make the first move. Their defense should be able to shut down the broken Leafs offense as well.
With the way the Islanders are playing, I don't see them scoring many goals. Sorokin should play well tonight off much needed rest so Toronto's goal count should also be low. We're getting good value here and going to take the under 6.5 goals.
I like for Bo Horvat to rip up puck tonight. His 4 or more shots on goal for plus money is a solid look for this game. The team will need their leader to set the tone tonight and get them on the board to win this game. Sprinkle the anytime goal.
