Today, a battle of New York as the Islanders will take on the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. This will be the first matchup between these 2 teams this year. One team is streaking, the other, not so much.
The Rangers are currently 7-2-1 on the season and 2nd in the Metro Division. They have played great at home (3-1-1) and on the road (4-1-1) so far this season. This team is picking up right where they left off from last year's Eastern Conference Final appearance.
From last year, New York returns most of the same guys from last season. They did pick up Reilly Smith in the offseason. He was playing for the Penguins last season. Panarin, Kreider and Zibanejad all return and are off to solid starts. Panarin is crushing it with 7 goals and 9 assists already.
Goaltending is also playing top notch. Igor Shesterkin is 5-2-1 so far with a shutout and Jonathan Quick is 2-0-0. Shesterkin has a 2.25 GAA with a .931 save percentage and Quick has a 1.51 GAA with a .953 save percentage. Shesterkin is expected to get the start.
Islanders look to carry momentum from last game's win

Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson checks Rangers forward Vincent Trocheck into the boards.
The Islanders haven't had as great of a start as the Rangers. They're 4-5-2 so far and 6th in the Metro Division. This team's offense has made a turnaround but it seems it was at the sacrifice of defense.
Last year, the Islanders were in the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. So far, they are still in the bottom of the league for goals scored but are 4th in the league for shots on goal.
Although the Islanders are shooting more, we obviously see it doesn't always translate to goals. New York is dead last in shooting percentage, averaging only 7% per game. It's honestly just ridiculous.
This team's offense has taken 2 blows due to injuries so far. Anthony Duclair has been out with a leg injury and Mat Barzal was just ruled out for 4-6 weeks with a Upper Body injury.
For this game, we'll see Sorokin between the pipes. He is 3-2-1 this season with a 2.00 GAA and a .928 save percentage. Sorokin is 1-2-2 in his last 5 games vs the Rangers.
Let's check out the odds and get into the picks.

Although we have good goaltending, we have 2 teams that know each other very well. Both goalies tend to be leaky against each other. That's why I'm going to go with the over in this game.
On top of the history, the Rangers have one of the best offenses in the league and the Islanders are absolutely firing the puck. We're going to see goals in this game and the total is set low which is even better.
I expect Chris Kreider to be a menace. I like him for 3+ shots on goal and I'll also be playing his anytime goal. Kreider tends to be an Islanders killer, so let's ride the wave.
I also like Igor Shesterkin over his saves line with the way the Islanders have been shooting. The Rangers rank in the bottom of the league for shots on goal allowed per game.
