Welcome back to another edition of NZ's gameday. Tonight, the New York Islanders will take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. These two teams met back in January, and the Islanders won 4-3 in overtime.
New York is 38-24-5 this season and tied for second in the Metro Division. They come into this game off a win over the Flames on Saturday. The Islanders are 7-3-0 in their last ten games and 20-13-3 at home this year.
It's a wild ride in the Eastern Conference, not just the Metro. Even with the spot that the Isles are in, one or two losses and they are right out of the playoffs. Seed three through eight are separated by only four points.
They've been good on the road this season. The Isles offensive numbers on paper are not very strong, but this team is getting wins. Their defense and goaltending are huge parts of why. New York ranks fourth best for goals allowed per game.
Goalie Ilya Sorokin will be getting the start. He is 24-15-2 this season with a 2.51 GAA and a .913 save percentage. Sorokin leads the league with six shutouts and is definitely a Vezina contender.

Toronto continues on without their captain and out of the playoffs

Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly takes the puck around the back of the net looking to pass.
The Leafs are 29-27-12 this year and seventh in the Atlantic Division. They come into this game off a win over the Wild on Sunday. Toronto is 2-5-3 in their last ten games and 17-11-7 at home.
It's been a disastrous season for the Leafs this year. They went from having one of the scariest offenses in the league to just mediocre. Losing Auston Matthews to that knee injury was pretty much the end of their season as well. That hit was dirty, I don't care what anyone says.
On defense, they're so bad. They rank fourth worst for goals allowed and worst for shots on goal allowed per game in the league. Killing penalties is what they do best on defense, having the third best in the league.
In net, we're expected to see Joseph Woll. He is 14-11-5 this season with a 2.90 GAA and a .906 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Islanders vs. Leafs picks.

It's absolute crunch time for the Islanders. Every game is so important, and every game is not must win. This is really a game they should win as well with the Leafs season over for the most part. New York also plays confidence on the road and hold their own.
The Islanders have been great this season and it would be a shame for the to go cold now. They need to come out the gate hot and get the lead early, so they're not playing from behind. Last game was a game they should've won by multiple goals, but they play down to these weaker teams.
I like for Leafs goalie Joseph Woll to get over his saves line. Toronto allows the most shots on goal per game in the league. The Islanders cane also fire when they're in their grove, which they'll need to be in.
