We have a nice midday game today on this packed hockey slate. The New York Islanders will visit the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. This will be the 1st time the 2 teams meet this season.

New York is 7-6-4 and 5th in the Metro Division. They come into this game coming off a nice win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night. Goalie Semyon Varlamov was in net and stopped 24 out of 26 shots faced.

In their last 10 games, the Islanders are 4-4-2. Just like their record, they're putting up very mediocre numbers. The offense started out playing really well and are starting to fade a little. Scoring has always been a problem, but they have been shooting a lot more.

Goalie Ilya Sorokin is starting in net this afternoon. He is 4-3-3 on the year with a 2.66 GAA and a .915 save percentage. As previous years, Sorokin has decent numbers to start, he'll just need defense to back him up.

The Kraken are off to an 8-8-1 and are 6th in the Pacific Division. They are currently 4-5-1 in their last 10 games but are on a 3-game winning streak. At home, they're 5-3-1 on the year and will be looking for their 4th win in a row.

Injuries haven't been too kind to the Kraken. Former Islander and team captain Jordan Eberle has been out with a lower body injury. Defenseman Vince Dunn, who is a huge part of this team, is on the LTIR with a upper body injury.

On offense, this team ranks middle of the road. They rank 7th in goals per game, but 25th in shots on goal per game. You can see they try to make the most of their shots with an 11% shooting percentage, 15th in the league.

Defensively, they allow 3 goals per game and almost 30 shots on goal. They will need to tighten that up vs the Islanders who have been shooting a lot this season. Goalie Joey Daccord is expected in net today. He has a 2.55 GAA and a .918 save percentage.

With the way these teams have been playing, the sportsbooks are giving us a pick 'em. At first, I thought it was a little strange that the Islanders weren't favored, but Seattle home and on the winning streak evens it out.

The Islanders are going to need to get ahead early and protect that lead. New York is 5-3-2 on the road this season, so they can hold their own in a visiting barn. The other key to the game will be protecting Sorokin and not having him face 40 shots.

I like Sorokin to get over his saves line of 27.5 at -115. He's hit this line in his last 5 games straight with 4 out of the 5 games being 30+ save performances. Sorokin has also hit his saves line in his last 3 games vs Seattle, including 1 at Climate Pledge.
