As the season winds down, some teams are still hoping to make the playoffs. Tonight, the St. Louis Blues will try to keep their hopes alive vs. the Colorado Avalanche. These two teams last played on New Year's Eve and the Avs won 6-1.
Colorado is 50-15-10 and first in the Central Division and the league. They come into this game off a win over the Stars yesterday. The Avs are 6-3-1 in their last ten games, 24-8-5 at home and 15-4-5 in divisional matchups.
It's been a heck of a season for Colorado. They currently have the league's only 50 goals scorer in Nathan MacKinnon. Their offense has been firing on all cylinders with last year's additions of Brock Nelson and Martin Necas paying off. Adding Nazem Kadri really tips the scale more.
Their defense has been just as good as their offense. They rank the best in the league for fewest goals allowed per game and have the second-best penalty kill to go along with committing the second least number of penalties per game. Colorado plays a complete game.
In net, we're expected to see Mackenzie Blackwood. He is 21-9-1 this season with a 2.34 GAA and a .899 save percentage. Blackwood came in for Scott Wedgewood two games ago and got lit up, allowing six goals on nineteen shots.

St. Louis has games in hand to try and get a wild card spot

Blues forward Rob Thomas stands and waits for the faceoff during a timeout.
The Blues are 32-31-12 this year and seventh in the Central Division. They come into this game off a big win over the Ducks on Friday. St. Louis is 6-2-2 in their last ten games, 14-19-5 on the road and 6-14-0 in divisional games.
Being in the Central Division, they are in one of the toughest divisions in the league. The top three spots have been locked up for weeks now, so a wild card is their only hope. They currently are five points out of the second spot with six games left to play.
Naturally, they're completely out matched today. Their offense ranks in the bottom of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. St. Louis doesn't shoot the puck well and are not very good on the power play either.
On defense, it's not much better. The Blues rank in the bottom of the league for goals allowed per game, as well as penalty kill. Goalie Jordan Binnington is expected to get the start. He is 12-19-7 this year with a 3.08 GAA and a .874 save percentage.

Colorado beat the brakes off St. Louis three months ago and I think we see it again. The Avs are coming off a chess match vs. the Stars, winning 2-0. We should see an offensive explosion tonight out of this team and the Blues have no answer.
Obviously, we know Colorado is staffed much better. They also are having a year to remember. I think they win this game by multiple goals and coast here to another big win. St. Louis needs to more, but they're not going to be able to do it.
Nathan MacKinnon should go crazy. I like him for 5 or more shots on goal as well as Martin Necas for 3 or more shots on goal. You can pair the two for some nice plus money. Give me MacKinnon to keep scoring as well.
