We're back with an Eastern Conference matchup where it is a dog fight. Metro Division rivals, the Columbus Blue Jackets and the New Jersey Devils will take the ice tonight. These two teams last met on New Year's Eve and the Devils won 3-2.
Columbus is 27-20-7 and are fourth in the Metro Division. They come into this game on fire, riding a five-game winning streak after another win on Saturday vs. the Blues. The Blue Jackets are 9-1-0 in their last ten games, 13-12-3 on the road and 5-7-3 in divisional games.
Like I said, this team is on fire right now. In their last five games, they are averaging over four goals per game. They only average three goals per game, which is seventeenth in the league. Columbus fires the puck, ranking fourth most in the league per game, but don't shoot well with only a 10% shooting percentage.
Their defense is really not good, so all this offense is tipping the scale for wins. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal per game. The Jackets commit about four penalties per game, but rank in the bottom of the league for penalty kill.
Goalie Jet Greaves is expected to get the start. He is 17-12-6 this season with a 2.67 GAA and a .908 save percentage. Greaves came in this year and stole the starting spot from Elvis Merzlikins.

New Jersey tries to get it together to stay in the playoff hunt

Devils forward Timo Meier celebrates after scoring a goal vs. the Blue Jackets.
The Devils are 28-25-2 this year and are seventh in the Metro. They come into this game off a loss to the Senators on Saturday. New Jersey is 6-4-0 in their last ten games, 13-10-2 at home and 4-9-2 in divisional games.
It's been a very up and down season for the Devils. They started this season at the top of the division but have slipped and slipped. They are playing in a tough division but are only seven points out of the third spot in the Metro. A wild card spot is probably out of reach.
Their offense has been struggling. They rank in the bottom of the league for goals scored and middle of the league for power play conversion. New Jersey fires the puck like Blue Jackets but have the second worst shooting percentage in the league.
On defense, it's not spectacular, but better than their offense because they're a little more consistent. They rank in the middle of the league for goals allowed and shots on goal allowed. Their penalty kill isn't horrible and they play smart hockey, committing less than three penalties per game.
In net, we're expected to see Jacob Markstrom. He is 15-12-1 this season with a 3.07 GAA and a .881 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Blue Jackets vs. Devils picks.

This should be a decent game, but I can't pass up on plus money for the Jackets. They look great as of late and this is a decent matchup for them. The key for the Devils is going to be the goal tending and I think Columbus gets the best of Markstrom.
The puck will be flying on both ends of the ice. The Blue Jackets need to take smart shots and not just throw everything out there. Puck on net is key and will be the key to their success if they can make it happen.
I like for Greaves to get over his saves line. Columbus allows a good number of shots and the Devils are going to pepper him. Finding the back of the net will be their issue, but we're going to take the over and the line should be around 26-27 saves.
Another play I like is Nico Hischier to get his 3 or more shots on goal. He has hit in his last three games straight and his last four out of five games. Hischier also hit his shot line last game vs. Columbus and scored, so we'll be sprinkling the anytime goal too.
