What a matchup we have tonight and I'm pumped. The Colorado Avalanche will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena. These two teams met last week, and the Pens pulled out a huge 7-2 win.
Colorado is 46-13-10 this season and are the best team in the league. They clinched their spot in the playoffs already but still have Dallas on their tail. The Avalanche are 6-3-1 in their last ten games and 23-7-5 on the road this year.
This is one fun team to watch. They lead the league in goals scored and shots on goal per game. Surprisingly, Colorado has the worst power play in the league. With all the stars and fire power they have, you'd think they'd have one of the best. Go figure.
Their defense has got to be the best in the league. The Avs rank best for goals allowed per game and are sixth best for shots on allowed per game. They play smart hockey and commit the second least penalties per game while killing off 83% of those penalties, third best in the league.
Goalie Scott Wedgewood is expected to get the start. He is 25-5-6 this season with a 2.08 GAA and a .916 save percentage. Wedgewood has been exceptional for the Avs this season and will look to continue this into the playoffs.

Pittsburgh coming off a rough loss vs. another tough opponent

Penguins defenseman Kris Letang high fives forward Evgeni Malkin after scoring a goal vs. the Avalanche.
The Penguins are 35-19-16 this year and second in the Metro Division. They come into this game one point ahead of third and fourth in the division. Every game matters for the Pens right now as one loss could put them in a wild card spot, or even worse, out of the playoffs.
Pittsburgh's offense also ranks in the top of the league for goals scored and shots on goal per game. Their power play conversion rate and shooting percentage are right up there as well, but this will be about the defenses.
On defense, the Pens rank twelfth in goals allowed and eleventh in shots on goal allowed per game. They have the second-best penalty kill in the league, so the Avs weak power play is dead. Pittsburgh will need to support their goalie with the Colorado offense.
In net, we're expected to see Stuart Skinner. He is 20-14-9 this season with a 2.81 GAA and a .889 save percentage. Let's check out the odds and get into the Avalanche vs. Penguins picks.

The Pens laid a pounding on the Avs last game in Ball Arena, so you know Colorado hasn't forgot that. I think we see a chess match here where each team is going to play tight defense. We have solid goaltending as well, which is why we're going with the under here.
Both offenses and defenses are top notch. We're going to see a very skilled game. I think in the end, the Avs will come out with the win, and the Penguins Puck Line +1.5 is a very solid look. Could very well be a 2-1 game in the end.
I like for Sidney Crosby to get his 3 or more shots on goal. The kid is always involved and is one of the most consistent players on all time. I would normally play his 2 or more points, but I don't know if he'll get that chance.
