Calgary Flames vs Edmonton Oilers Picks

<p>The Edmonton Oilers will host the Calgary Flames for Game 3 of their second round series Sunday night. The series is tied 1-1 after they split their first two games in Calgary.</p>
<p>The offenses have been insane over the first two games. The teams combined for 23 goals in Games 1 and 2, and there hasn’t been much goaltending to talk about.</p>
<p>Edmonton hosts Calgary in the playoffs for the first time since 1991. The Flames enter losing 9 of their last 10 in Edmonton, but this series has a different feel to it.</p>
<p>Calgary has started fast in the first two games, jumping out to two goal leads within the first five minutes both times. This is the kind of offense that will be necessary to give them a chance against a fast Edmonton team, who has answered well in the series.</p>
<p>Calgary is the slight favorite in the odds, but it’s close. With Edmonton playing at home for the first time in the series, we get to take a look at how the dynamic will change as they shift locations.</p>

<h2 id="87one">Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Offense</h2>
<p>Edmonton’s star Center, Connor McDavid, has been brilliant in the postseason this year. He has 6 goals and 14 assists in just nine games played. He has tallied at least a point in 8 of his 9 postseason games.</p>
<p>McDavid has scored a goal in each of his last 5 games, and is leading the first line charge that has Edmonton in a position to make an even deeper run. </p>
<p>Another Center for Edmonton, Leon Draisaitl, has produced at a high level this postseason. He scored 55 goals in the regular season, and he already has 6 in the postseason. </p>
<p>Edmonton has two stars on different lines that are producing. They are staying out of the penalty box and are a constant threat when on the ice. Both are setting up scoring plays by weaving in and out of traffic and breaking down the Calgary defense.</p>
<p>The Oilers have netted 11 goals in two games, and have the series tied up. Their stars have made the plan simple. Get McDavid and Draisaitl the puck, and watch the magic happen.</p>
<p>Both players will be at top form at home, and I would expect to see the puck in the back of the net multiple times. Even though Edmonton may be trailing in the lines, their offense will be the more explosive of the two, and it should lead the Oilers to a 2-1 series lead.</p>
