Jets vs Dolphins Week 18 Prediction: Can Miami Overcome QB Injuries in AFC East Rivalry Game?

The New York Jets will try to end the Miami Dolphins’ playoff hopes when the two teams collide in Week 18 of the 2022 NFL season. Miami needs to win to punch a ticket to the postseason, but the last thing New York wants is for its AFC East rival to succeed. In other words, expect tensions to be high during this Jets vs Dolphins matchup.
The Jets have now each of their last five contests ahead of this matchup. Their 23-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks eliminated them from playoff contention last week, leaving the Jets in the role of playing spoiler for the rival Dolphins.
Speaking of which, the Dolphins are also on a five-game skid. Miami fell to the New England Patriots 23-21 last week, highlighting the struggles that the Dolphins tend to experience whenever starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is sidelined.
Betting News has gathered the latest Jets vs Dolphins odds from FanDuel Sportsbook to help shed some light on the situation, along with a prediction and best bets for the NFL Week 18 game.

Jets vs Dolphins Prediction and Picks
Jets vs Dolphins Prediction: Dolphins 19, Jets 13
Jets vs Dolphins Picks: Dolphins -2 (Best Value: -110 at FanDuel) & Under 38.5 Points (Best Value: -110 at FanDuel)
While there’s usually little reason to like the Dolphins without Tagovailoa, they look attractive against a struggling Jets squad.
Whether it’s been Zach Wilson or Mike White under center, the Jets’ offense has been struggling during their skid. They’re only averaging 12 points over the last six games while also being held to a combined nine points over the last two weeks.
The Dolphins are also struggling, but they’ve at least scored 20-plus points in each of the last three contests. Considering how the Jets haven’t scored at least 20 points since Week 13, it’s easy to trust Miami’s offense a bit more.
The Dolphins have also been tough to beat at home this season, going 5-2 at Hard Rock Stadium. Even with the offense being shorthanded, the defense should be able to pick up the slack. After all, the Dolphins have a plus-6.3 scoring margin in their own building (No. 7) while only allowing 16.9 points (T-No. 3) and 307.3 total yards (No. 7) per game at home.
Although the Jets are a modest 4-4 on the road, their offense tends to disappear away from MetLife Stadium. When it comes to playing away from home, the Jets average the 10th-fewest points and eighth-fewest total yards.

There’s also the fact that the Jets have lost six straight trips to Hard Rock Stadium, having not won in Miami Gardens since October 2015. Miami has outscored New York by an average of 8.8 points in those meetings, including a 31-24 victory in December 2021.
I also believe that the possibility of making the playoffs gives the Dolphins extra motivation to beat the rival Jets. Miami hasn’t qualified for the playoffs since the 2016 campaign and you have to think that head coach Mike McDaniel is going to do everything he can to ensure that the postseason drought ends.
Having said that, I’m backing the Dolphins to cover the 2-point spread this weekend. While Miami has struggled to win games lately, it’s 5-1 ATS in its last six games against AFC East teams and 7-2-1 ATS in the last 10 Jets vs Dolphins matchups. Considering how much New York has struggled to score points lately, winning by a field goal should be no issue for the Dolphins.
Speaking of those struggles, I expect a low-scoring affair between these foes. The under is 9-2 in the Jets’ last 11 games, 6-1 in the Dolphins’ last seven home games and 6-3 in the last nine clashes between these two teams.
With the Jets’ offense struggling and the Dolphins’ QB room being a mess, a low-scoring affair is much more likely.
