NFL Training Camp News This Week: Fantasy Football Implications

We'll start with the Falcons, where early NFL training camp news has already hit the quarterback room. Tua Tagovailoa has a minor injury, and Adam Schefter cited it as a "tight back." Michael Penix Jr. is still on the mend from his own serious knee issue, and Atlanta went out and signed veteran quarterback Cooper Rush.

We already have an entirely new coaching staff led by Kevin Stefanski in Atlanta, and this NFC South isn't loaded with dominant defenses or gauntlet opponents. Still, fantasy football drafters are tied pretty heavily to this offense: Bijan Robinson (No. 1 or 2 overall) and Drake London are both going in the first two rounds of average draft position. Bijan should be fine no matter what, but for those picks to meet cost, we really need Tua or Penix playing the majority of games this season.

London was one of six receivers last year who had a 25%-plus target share, averaged 15‑plus PPR fantasy points per game, and played at least 12 games. His range of outcomes is wide because of the new offensive system and uncertain quarterback play.

The fantasy takeaway: Falcons training camp news at QB adds risk to London's ceiling; Bijan remains a stud, but monitor Tua's back and Penix's knee before you go all‑in on stacking Atlanta.

Injuries Piling Up for Carolina Panthers

It's been a rough go for the Carolina Panthers so far. Second‑round pick Nic Scourton, a very talented edge rusher out of Texas A&M, tore his ACL in camp this week — a huge loss and just really sad for such a promising young player.

Then, more NFL injury news out of Panthers camp. Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reported that rookie receiver Chris Brazell II out of Tennessee suffered a "moderate LCL tear in his left knee" in practice and is expected to miss up to eight weeks, crediting Joe Person of The Athletic for the update. Things couldn't have started any worse for Carolina.

From a fantasy football standpoint, Brazell wasn't a redraft staple. He was more of a late‑round best ball target or deep‑bench stash — but he definitely had some dynasty league appeal.

This is an awful start, but it also creates a possible dynasty buy‑low window. If you're playing the long game, negative NFL training camp news like this sometimes gives you a chance to acquire a talented rookie at a discount.

That being said, there was some positive news. It sounded like Bryce Young and the offense looked sharp overall on Wednesday. We'll see if the Panthers can build on their Cinderella run last year. We can't forget they came ever so close to knocking off the Rams in the playoffs.

Seahawks Backfield: Zach Charbonnet

Zach Charbonnet had monster games last year and is a great late round pick

Albert Breer reported that it's a "potential close call" whether Zach Charbonnet will be ready for Week 1 after his significant knee injury. At the same time, the team spent solid draft capital on rookie Jadrian Price out of Notre Dame, and Price's ADP has been high all summer, while Charbonnet has gone much later.

This is exactly the kind of NFL training camp news that matters for fantasy football. The cost on Charbonnet will rise quickly if he's truly ready earlier in the season. If you drafted early, you've already captured cheaper Charbonnet exposure in your portfolio. But if you're drafting now, you need to weigh the risk that Price's role shrinks as Charbonnet gets healthy.

Early drafters got a nice discount on Charbonnet; late drafters might have to pay up or pivot to Price if camp reports stay cloudy. If Charbonnet's price moves up multiple rounds, early-summer best-ball drafters will have unique player combos that won't be replicated.

49ers: Pearsall, Stribling, and McCaffrey's handcuff

Ricky Pearsall

We'll move on to San Francisco, where the NFL training camp news has been rough. We know head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident, but we'll leave that aside and focus on the fantasy angles.

Ricky Pearsall might be one of those guys who can't stay healthy. ESPN's Nick Wagoner reported that Pearsall is "dealing with knee swelling related to the PCL injury he suffered last year. Team says all options are being explored, and there is some concern."

We still aren't sure when George Kittle will be ready to roll. He has big ambitions to play Week 1, but the situation is very ambiguous. With all this NFL injury news hitting the 49ers' pass‑catchers, I'm looking closely at rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling. The team has had high praise for him. Stribling was a second‑round pick at 33rd overall, and there are rumors several teams had him higher on their draft boards.

Stribling has been going in the last couple of rounds of best ball drafts or going undrafted in many regular leagues, but that will change quickly if camp hype and training camp reports keep trending up. Christian Kirk also injured his calf a couple of days ago.

Outside of Mike Evans, there isn't another receiver who really moves the fantasy needle in this 49ers group beyond journeyman Demarcus Robinson and Jacob Cowing. Stribling becomes a very sneaky late‑round fantasy football training camp riser.

Fantasy Football's Most Valuable Handcuff

Staying with San Francisco, there's running back injury news as well. But exhale, SF fans, it's not Christian McCaffrey. Wagoner said Jordan James fractured a rib in Monday's practice and will miss "some time." That likely leaves McCaffrey's direct handcuff as Kaelon Black, the third‑round pick out of Indiana, at least for now. He'll have an early edge on that early‑season handcuff job while James heals up.

This is one of the most valuable handcuffs in the league in a Kyle Shanahan offense, and we know McCaffrey has an injury history. It wasn't long ago that Jordan Mason was balling out in this system. I'm not saying either Black or James is Mason, but you get the idea.

Arizona Cardinals: A Baffling Organization

Jeremiyah Love will run all over Miami on Sunday Night - NCAA Football Player Props

Now for some coach speak that I think is huge for fantasy football. Albert Breer also reported that, regarding No. 3 overall pick Jeremiyah Love, "the Cardinals plan to not overload Jeremiyah Love as a rookie and find the rotation between him, James Conner, and Tyler Allgeier."

To me, this is absolutely ridiculous. The offense has some pieces, but the defense is terrible. So, you take a running back No. 3 overall — generational or not — in a draft where there were so many blue‑chip defensive prospects? You also spend real money on Allgeier and have depth at the position. We didn't even mention Trey Benson, who still exists in this backfield mix.

Why not put as much on Love's plate as you can? Running backs typically have the shortest careers among most starters in the NFL skill‑position world, and none of this rotation talk makes much sense. Then you double down and realize Nathaniel Hackett will have a hand in the offense alongside first‑year head coach/play‑caller Michael LaFleur, and Love becomes a truly polarizing fantasy football option.

I "love" Love as a player, and his ceiling should be theoretically incredible, but the situation just became much cloudier. Love did hint a few weeks ago that he admired the idea of splitting carries, just like he did at Notre Dame. Maybe it's more than just smoke; who knows!

Love is currently going around the 2‑3 turn in most fantasy drafts. This NFL training camp coach‑speak could be total garbage, or it could be real. My take: if his ADP slides to the end of the third round as things get murky, you have to be very, very interested in his ceiling, even on a bad team — especially in best ball formats. If you sneak into the fantasy playoffs and he has a spike week at the right moment late in the season, he could be worth every penny at that cost.

NFL Training Camp News Continues

NFL training camp news, fantasy football injuries, and coach speak are going to be everywhere over the next month. The challenge is separating noise from real stuff.

Use camp reports to shape your fantasy football strategy, but don't let every headline send you scrambling. The goal is to spot value before the market fully adjusts and to stay ahead of the big injury and depth‑chart news that really changes things. It might be worth starting a running list of updates as draft szn approaches!
