One of the biggest rivalries in the NFL will be renewed come Sunday as the Dallas Cowboys will host the Washington Commanders.

Whatever the Washington team is named, there is no love lost between them and the Cowboys, who will be seeking their third straight win with backup quarterback Cooper Rush.

While the Cowboys are aiming for a third straight win, the Commanders will be aiming to prevent a third straight loss since winning their season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Dallas has had the upper hand in the rivalry in recent years, winning 19 of the last 27 meetings. Last season, they came out on top in both games, including a record-breaking 56-14 win at AT&T Stadium.

A 42-point win isn't particularly likely this time around, especially with Dak Prescott still sidelined (but potentially set to return for the Cowboys' Week 5 road game against the Los Angeles Rams).

But Dallas is favored to log yet another win over Washington, who has had very little road success in this rivalry over the last three decades.

Commanders vs. Cowboys Best Bets: Cowboys -3 (Best Value: -108 at BetOnline) & Cowboys team total over 22.5 points (Best Value: -110 at BetOnline)

It's not like there have to be too many standout reasons to fade a Carson Wentz-led team, but since Washington won three in a row at Dallas from 1987 to 1989, the Cowboys are 24-8 at home against their rivals from the nation's capital.

Washington's 41-16 win at AT&T Stadium broke a four-game home win streak for Dallas in the series, but the Cowboys more than made up for it with last season's Week 16 demolition.

Will we see more of the same on Sunday? It might not be a dominant win for the Cowboys, but you have to like their response to their ugly season-opening loss to the Bucs (and losing Prescott in that loss).

Every unit made some sort of contribution in the wins over the Bengals and Giants. Cooper Rush has filled in well for Prescott, and Zeke Elliott and Tony Pollard have been highly effective, helping minimize how much Rush has had to do to help win games.

The Commanders, meanwhile, were no match for the Detroit Lions in Week 2 or the Philadelphia Eagles last Sunday. It's hard to see things going much better for them at AT&T Stadium this Sunday, even with Prescott still sidelined.

Notable Betting Trends for Commanders vs. Cowboys

  • As mentioned, the Cowboys are 24-8 in their last 32 home games against the Commanders.
  • Of those 24 wins, 18 have come by four or more points.
  • Out of the Cowboys' last 40 wins over Washington, 30 have been by four or more points, including each of the last nine.
  • Not only is a Cowboys win likely to mean a Cowboys cover, it also is likely that a Cowboys win will come with 23+ points. In their last nine wins vs. Washington, Dallas has scored 23+ points each time.
