Let's dive into Saturday's rematch in the First Round of the College Football Playoff. On Friday night in Norman, we get our first rematch with No. 9 Alabama taking on No. 8 Oklahoma, but on Saturday afternoon, the No. 11 Tulane Green Wave head back to Oxford to face the No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels. Lane Kiffin's (former) team hosted the Green Wave back in Week 4, beating them 45-10 in the process. Will something similar happen without Kiffin? Or can Jon Sumrall extend his final few days as head coach of Tulane? Let's get into our expert picks.

Jon Sumrall will coach at Florida, but is with the Green Wave through the CFP - Tulane Ole Miss Picks

Jon Sumrall will coach at Florida, but is with the Green Wave through the CFP

Let's talk about that first matchup once again. The Rebels beat Tulane 45-10, covering the 12 point spread while staying under the total of 61. The hosts out gained Tulane offensively by nearly 300 yards (266 to be exact), and also held them unsuccessful on three different fourth down conversion attempts to preserve their lead. Trinidad Chambliss led the offense to four separate 70+ yard drives, totaling 24 points on just those possessions. Will he be able to do it again without Kiffin in his ear?

Tulane has only tasted defeat twice this year, against Ole Miss as mentioned above, and against UTSA on the road, losing by 22 as six point favorites. Two embarrassing losses if you ask me. Their head coach has already accepted a new job, but it's not like he's jumping a sinking ship. Jon Sumrall is "graduating" to the SEC where he will coach Florida, and I'm sure the locker room is excited for him and motivated to play hard. Good on him for sticking around, but can they avoid a butt kicking to send him off?

Now, I'm alright with 20.5 for less juice if you'd like, as I expect Ole Miss will be able to score touchdowns instead of field goals whenever they please. They are top 30 in third down conversions, while Tulane is No. 73 in that category defensively. Last matchup, this would have cashed with ease, as the Rebels scored 23 first half points, getting points on all five offensive possessions. I see them doing exactly what they did in the first meeting, which is starting off strong, aggressive, and looking to score in bunches. Put up plenty of points, and leave them in the dust, because Tulane certainly doesn't have the passing attack to keep up. Chambliss had over 300 passing yards last game, neither Green Wave quarterback broke 60.

The Green Wave are top 30 in first half points allowed, but they give up two touchdowns more on the road than at home, while Ole Miss has put up 21 points in the first two quarters of 7/12 games this season (20 points once and 17 points twice). I believe they will attack with aggression early, coasting in the second half to prepare for Georgia.

Tulane's secondary is bottom 20 in opponent completion percentage and passing yards allowed, while ranking No. 86 in opponent yards per pass attempt. Chambliss will be able to pick apart this secondary if the running game has some struggles (which they might). Overall, this Rebels team has a special kind of motivation no other team in this playoff does.

Their coach abandoned them for an in-conference rival. Go out there and prove to everyone in the first two quarters of this game that you all are just fine without him, and perhaps even more dangerous.
