Every year when the schedule comes out and you see Georgia is playing Alabama you know it's going to be on of the biggest games of the year in College Football. This year is no different. #2 Georgia vs #6 Alabama face off on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa where the winner very well could be the new #1 team in the country. Kirby Smart has accomplished just about everything as a coach in College Football. The one thing he has never done is beat Alabama in the regular season. He is 0-3 against the Tide and 2-7 overall. Can he get that first regular season win on Saturday night?

NCAA Football Expert Insights: Georgia vs Alabama

Keelon Russell and the Tide look to keep rolling

Alabama was a big unknown coming into the season because they were starting a new QB and had a new look offensive line. The O-line has been much improved and Quarterback, Keelon Russell has been everything Alabama could have hoped for and then some. It's only 5 weeks into the season, but this kid is the real deal. He does everything well. Makes good decisions, he's accurate, he's athletic, great pocket presence. #12 is a star in the making. This will be his ultimate test though going up against a Georgia defense and I can't wait to see what that looks like.

On the flip side with Georgia, this is going to be the best team they have played by a country mile. They played Tennessee State and Western Kentucky in the non conference and have faced Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt in SEC play. Big step up in class this week facing the Tide. Gunnar Stockton and the offense have looked very good and the defense has looked like a typical Georgia defense. A bunch of people feel like they might be the best team in the country and we certainly will get our answer on Saturday.

Another huge part of this game it looks like will be the weather. There are talks that this game could be postponed or potentially moved do to effects from Hurricane Isaias. It seems like a given that we will have rain and wind in this matchup which certainly adds another wrinkle to this Top 6 showdown.

Alabama vs Georgia Prediction: Georgia Wins, Georgia Covers, Under 52

Best Bet: Georgia +2 (+103) BetOnline

This will only be the second time Kirby Smart is an underdog in the last 4 seasons in a regular game. Last time Georgia was an dog they went to Texas in 2024 and beat the Longhorns, 30-15. Georgia and Kirby being a dog feels a lot like when Mahomes and the Chiefs are a dog. You don't get a chance to bet it very often, but when you do it's usually a good idea.

I also just don't agree with the line move. Georgia was -2.5 on the look ahead and now they are +2. Bama had a very impressive win against Mississippi State, but the Miss State defense isn't very good. Alabama's offense I think is going to struggle to run the ball vs this Georgia defense. If Georgia can make your offense one dimensional then you're in some trouble.

We also thought Alabama would have one of the elite defense's in the country and that hasn't been the case so far. They have been good, but not great. I think they match up pretty well with Georgia, but this is the best offensive line they have played by a wide margin. You throw in the fact that there will be rain involved and running the ball and who controls the line of scrimmage will be paramount, I think that's a big advantage to Georgia.

DeBoer is 2-0 against Kirby Smart and both games have been entertaining and close. I don't expect this one to be much different. I think this is one of those games where whoever the underdog is, is who I would bet. Since it's Georgia that's my pick and honestly backing Kirby as an underdog doesn't sound to bad to me. Give me Georgia 27 – Alabama 24, and the Bulldogs will be your new #1 team in the country come Monday afternoon.
