The Chanticleers and Bulldogs face each other down in Louisiana as Coastal Carolina and Louisiana Tech meet in the Independence Bowl. Coastal ended the season on a three game losing streak, but still maintained bowl eligibility. As for the Bulldogs, they won their last two to games for their first winning record since the 2019 season. Can they cap things off with a bowl win? Or will the Chanticleers battle for their interim head coach? Let's find out with our favorite picks.

Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Independence Bowl Insights

Ja'Vin Simpkins and Coastal Carolina are very shorthanded today in the Independence Bowl against the Bulldogs
Let's get into opt outs! The Chanticleers fired their head coach Tim Beck, and defensive coordinator Jeremiah Johnson has taken over for the bowl game. They have hired former Missouri State head coach Ryan Beard to take over next season and get the Chants back to a prominent position in the G5 conferences. They will be without quarterback Samari Collier (likely), so Tad Hudson gets the start, who did begin the season as the starter.
Coastal will be missing their starting left tackle Nick Del Grande, starting safety and leading tackler Xamarion Gordon and leading wide out Cameron Wright. It could be rough for this Coastal team that already isn't that good.
As for Louisiana Tech, they played three quarterbacks this year, but will be down to one in the bowl game. Trey Kukuk should start, as he did the final two games. Blake Baker and Evan Bullock have both entered the portal, and Baker is out for the year anyways. Will the dual threat quarterback be able to get the job done?

Coastal Carolina vs. Louisiana Tech Independence Bowl Picks and Predictions

Trey Kukuk is the Bulldogs' second leading rusher this season, despite playing in just eight games
Coastal Carolina vs. Louisiana Tech Prediction: Louisiana Tech Wins and Covers, Over 49.5
Best Bet: Trey Kukuk (LT) Over 72.5 Rushing Yards (-115) Lucky Rebel Sportsbook
Back this dual threat with me today. He's only appeared in eight games this year, but is still the Bulldog's second leading rusher in terms of carries and rushing yards. Kukuk has ran over 16 times a game in his past two, covering 140+ yards on the ground. Now, those were the only two times he's cleared this line, but given he will play this whole game, he will have plenty of opportunities to get over this number.
Louisiana Tech runs the ball over 60% of the time, putting them in the top 15 in rush play percentage. They do so for nearly five yards per carry, ranking top 25 in yards per rush and rushing yards per game. They are top 35 in third down conversions as well, so they can keep the drives alive. Plus the Chanticleers rushing defense is horrendous.
Coastal is sixth worst in yards per carry allowed and fourth worst in rushing yards per game given up. They are dead last in yards per game allowed overall, ranking fifth worst in points per game and No. 94 in third down conversions allowed. All the Bulldogs want to do is run the ball, and doing so with Kukuk is part of their identity. Look for the QB to get plenty of carries tonight, going for 100+ with ease on the Chanticleers.
The Bulldogs should be up big, control this game, and keep the ball on the ground to chew up that clock.
