Little late night tuck me in special going down in Corvallis as the Oregon State Beavers host the San Francisco Dons. Both teams will be eyeing a chance to end 2025 with a win before entering the new year. The Dons have been on a hot streak, winning four of their last five games. Meanwhile, the Beavers are coming off an embarrassing loss to Santa Clara. Can the Dons keep their winning ways alive, or will the Beavers get back on track tonight at home?
The Get Right Special
The Dons are one of my favorite teams in college basketball. They are always solid and competitive, and that has shown over their last five games. They have covered in all five, and in three of those games, San Francisco was away from their home gym and won outright as underdogs. In their most recent game, the Dons beat Seattle 67 to 59 as 2.5-point underdogs. Meanwhile, Oregon State is coming off a 38-point loss to Santa Clara on Sunday. This feels like a spot for San Francisco to fall and for Oregon State to get right before the new year.
This will be the Beavers' third game against a top 100 opponent. In their previous three matchups, they managed to win only one game, a road victory against Arizona State on December 21. Their offense has been solid in those matchups. Despite the small sample size, they have gotten to the line at a high rate, knocked down free throws, and shot the deep ball efficiently. They have also attacked the offensive glass, ranking 96th in offensive rebounding against top 100 opponents according to Bart Torvik.
San Francisco has only played three true road games this season, winning just one, which came in Seattle on Sunday. In those games, their offense has struggled, ranking in the bottom 150 in eFG%, rebounding, three-point percentage, and block percentage. Their defense, however, has been impeccable, ranking in the top 50, excelling at guarding both inside and out. They can do it all defensively but forcing turnovers has been an issue, ranked 314th.

The pace of this matchup will be slow, as both teams rank in the bottom 75 in pace. Points will be at a premium, making every basket count. The Beavers' defense will need to be sharp. They have done a solid job limiting fouls, guarding the perimeter, and protecting the paint, ranking top 180 in all three categories. They are also 67th in defensive block percentage.
Hopefully, Oregon State comes ready to end their year on a high note before gearing up for the second half of the season. I believe in them, as the Dons have been living on cloud nine all month long.
