Mid-Major Mondays deliver again as McNeese State hosts Nicholls State in a key Southland Conference matchup. Both teams enter on winning streaks, with the Cowboys hunting a fourth straight win and the Colonels chasing their sixth. McNeese has been dominant at home, pairing a top 30 offense with disruptive defense that forces turnovers and protects the rim. Nicholls has shown road toughness, but defensive efficiency away from home remains a concern. Rebounding, second chance points, and free throws could decide the margin. Lake Charles should be lively for a pivotal conference clash tonight with postseason implications looming large ahead.

Mid-Major Mondays are the best, and we have a great matchup on tap in the Southland Conference as McNeese State hosts Nicholls State. Two teams are riding winning streaks, with the Cowboys searching for their fourth straight victory, while the Colonels are chasing their sixth consecutive win tonight in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Can the Colonels grab another road victory, or will this turn into an all Cowboys performance?
After five straight games without covering a spread, the Cowboys look to get back on track tonight against the Colonels. Nicholls State is coming off an impressive win over New Orleans on Saturday, winning 90 to 77 as short road underdogs. Despite the dominant 13-point victory, they struggled in several key areas that the Cowboys should be able to exploit this evening. For starters, the Colonels lost the rebounding battle 31 to 20. The Cowboys rank 36th in offensive rebounding and should make a clear emphasis on generating second chance points. Nicholls also attempted half as many free throws as the Privateers. McNeese ranks 146th in free throw rate and 90th in free throw percentage, which could tilt the margin further in their favor.
Giddy Up!
The Cowboys should be able to take advantage of Nicholls State's flaws across the board. Away from home this season, the Colonels rank 329th in effective field goal percentage defense, 346th in three-point percentage defense, and 269th in defensive rebounding. Offensively, they are not overly flashy, but they do shoot the ball from deep with efficiency. That said, they remain bottom 50 in free throw percentage.
McNeese at home has been one of the most reliable teams in the country. Haslametrics gives them a massive home court edge, ranking the Cowboys 26th in away-home court metrics, while the Colonels sit at 244th. Through six home games, McNeese has maintained a top 30 offense. They rank top 35 in offensive block percentage, three point percentage, and offensive rebounding. Defensively, they are sixth in the country in forcing turnovers and 11th in blocks. While defensive rebounding can be an issue at times, they still rank top 100 at protecting the paint and defending the perimeter.
With the Cowboys not looking ahead to any upcoming spots, this sets up as a game where they can dig their toes in and fully control the action at home. On the other side, this is Nicholls State's biggest test until the 19th, when they host Stephen F. Austin. Coming off a big road win over New Orleans, this also profiles as a potential letdown spot for the Colonels tonight.
