Marquette vs. DePaul Bet
This may not be the game of the week for most people, but it will be for a small group in the South Loop of Chicago on Friday evening. The DePaul Blue Demons host their struggling rival, the Marquette Golden Eagles, for the first time this season. I have said all season long that this Marquette team is easily one of the worst versions in years. DePaul has been playing well since December, to the point where the Blue Demons should be in position to sweep the Golden Eagles this season.
With that said, we will be all over DePaul on Friday night. This is a team that may not be winning games outright, but they have been covering at an impressive rate in conference play. DePaul owns a 5-1 record against the spread in Big East action, while sitting at 2-4 straight up. Those two wins came against Xavier and Georgetown. On the other side, Marquette is 2-5 against the spread and 1-6 straight up in conference play.
Struggling Eagles
Playing on the road has been a major issue for Marquette, as they are 0-5 in true road games. The Golden Eagles have been atrocious offensively, ranking in the bottom 100 in adjusted offensive efficiency, eFG%, rebounding, two-point percentage, three-point percentage, and free throw percentage. They also rank in the bottom 100 in two-point defense. DePaul does not rely heavily on the three ball, instead attacking the glass and looking to draw fouls. The Blue Demons rank 53rd in free throw rate on offense.
Aside from getting to the line at a high rate, the DePaul offense is not as strong as its defense. Through 17 games this season, DePaul owns the 37th best defense in the country. They rank 35th in eFG% allowed, 66th in turnover rate, and 17th in defending the interior. They also sit 18th in three-point rate, which should make life miserable for Marquette when trying to generate clean looks from deep. Head coach Chris Holtmann has made it clear that he wants this team's identity to be built on defense.

As a two-time DePaul alum, I am slowly starting to buy into this team. The early losses to Buffalo crushed me, but we have since learned the Bulls are a top 175 team. The Blue Demons are playing with real defensive intensity and, finally, some genuine heart. DePaul has been promoting this game all week, the school is buying in, and they know this is a big moment for the program, regardless of how poor Marquette has been this season.
Best Bet: DePaul -3.5 (-107) on Lucky Rebel
