Marquette vs. Butler Bet
Back to back Friday road games for the Marquette Golden Eagles as they pack their bags and head to Indianapolis to take on the Butler Bulldogs, who are coming off a win over the same team that handed the Golden Eagles a loss a week ago today. Will Marquette have enough left in the tank after needing overtime to get through Providence on Monday, snapping a three game skid, or will Butler deliver yet again? Give me the dogs.
The Bulldogs are currently riding a two-game winning streak with wins over Seton Hall and DePaul. Their recent win over DePaul came after the Blue Demons emotional win over Marquette last Friday, when DePaul had its biggest student turnout since moving to Wintrust Arena. Despite how well the Bulldogs played, a last second layup secured the cover for those who backed DePaul +7.5. I think Butler can handle covering the -6 tonight against a Marquette team that has been atrocious on the road this season.
Struggling Birds
Through six true road games, the Golden Eagles rank 310th in eFG% offense, 327th in offensive rebounding, 311th in two-point percentage and second worst in free throw percentage. Not to mention, they sit 258th in eFG% defense, 267th in defensive rebounding and 280th in two-point percentage defense. Pathetic is the word for how they have performed on the road this season. Haslametrics grades them as the 9th worst team in away home court metrics.
Meanwhile, Butler has maintained a top 65 offense at home that has excelled at attacking the offensive boards, getting to the free throw line and finishing at a high rate around the rim. On the defensive end, they rank 139th at home, but they do a phenomenal job on the glass, keeping opponents off the line and limiting three-point attempts.
Marquette has played nine teams inside the top 100 and has yet to take one down. Is tonight the spot where Shaka Smart and his group turn it around? I doubt it. This should be a get right spot for Butler before heading to New York to take on St. John's on Wednesday. Butler or nothing for me in this spot.
Best Bet: Butler -6 (-114) on Lucky Rebel
