Indiana vs. USC Bet
Late night Big Ten action heads to Southern California, as the Indiana Hoosiers wrap up the second and final game of their road trip out west. Meanwhile, the USC Trojans look to clean things up, as they are 2-3 over their last five games. Those two wins came by a combined five points. Can the Trojans secure a commanding win tonight against an Indiana team playing some of its best basketball? Let us get into it.
A team I have been waiting to turn things around after a sluggish January is the Indiana Hoosiers. This group came out of the gates back in November, terrorizing everyone in its path. Once they got a taste of playing away from home, the struggles followed. Fast forward to the last three games, where Indiana demolished the Scarlet Knights on the road by 23, then took down Purdue at home 72 to 67, and followed that up by beating UCLA on the road 98 to 92 in double overtime. This team is flying too close to the sun and has endured a ton of travel over the last 11 days. I want to be all over the Trojans at home tonight.
USC is coming off a three point win over Rutgers this past Saturday. Were Eric Musselman's boys looking ahead to hosting the Hoosiers, as they failed to cover the 12.5-point spread against Rutgers? Possibly.
Against top 100 teams, the Trojans sit at 7-6 straight up, with their most notable wins coming against Wisconsin, Seton Hall, and Minnesota. In those 13 games, this squad owns a top 75 offense and defense. USC has excelled at getting to the line, which is important because fouling is something the Hoosiers struggle with on the road. On top of that, the Trojans are one of the best teams in the country at defending the perimeter, which will be crucial tonight. Indiana ranks eighth in three-point rate this season and shoots at an efficient clip.
Road games against top 100 teams have been an issue for the Hoosiers, who are 1-4 straight up. They rank 21st worst in offensive rebounding, 19th worst in offensive block percentage, and 37th worst in free throw rate defense. Their three-point percentage drops from 35.7% on the season to 29.3%, while still attempting the deep ball at the third highest rate in the country.
This game should have some pep due to how fast the Trojans like to play. At home this season, they rank 21st in pace of play. Meanwhile, the Hoosiers away from home sit at 245th. USC needs to take Indiana out of its comfort zone and force a faster tempo. If the Trojans can dictate pace and make Indiana play their style, they should come out on top in this one.
