Cal State Northridge vs. UC Davis Bet

Welcome into 2026, where we are going to do our very best to cash more plays while having the utmost fun. I do not think there is a better way to ring in the new year than with some Big West college hoops. The Cal State Northridge Matadors head to Davis, California to take on the UC Davis Aggies. The Matadors are coming off a tough loss in their previous matchup, while the Aggies are riding a two-game winning streak. UC Davis enters this matchup as a short 3.5-point favorite, with the total sitting at a hefty 161.5. One team is riding a hot streak, while the other is looking to get back on track. Who comes out on top in this Big West showdown?

Letdown vs. Bounce Back

I love the Matadors in this matchup, and not just because their name is cool. This feels like a great spot for Northridge to get back on track following their loss on Sunday to Stanford. The Aggies have been on a nice run over their last seven games, going 5-2 against the spread but only 3-4 straight up. They are also coming off a ten point win over Idaho State as 5.5 point road underdogs on December 21. UC Davis shot an impressive 59.6% from the floor in that game while knocking down 21 of their 23 free throw attempts. On the other side, the Matadors are coming off a game they probably should have won, falling to Stanford 88-80 as 16-point underdogs on Sunday. They should be hungry tonight after missing out on a statement win against a very solid Cardinal team.

Tempo Tempo Tempo

Northridge is going to want to push the pace in this matchup at a speed Speedy Gonzalez would struggle to keep up with. The Matadors are ranked 11th in the country in tempo. The Aggies are not a slow team either, but they are nowhere near that fast, as Haslametrics has them ranked 146th. Northridge has maintained a solid offense this season, ranking inside the top 150 on Bart Torvik. They attack the glass efficiently and are capable from deep. On the defensive end, they excel on the boards, ranking 52nd in the country. Their biggest issue is allowing a high volume of three point attempts. That is less concerning here, as UC Davis ranks 242nd in three-point percentage.

At home this season, the Aggies have been fairly impressive, but there are plenty of flaws. They rank bottom 100 in several key areas, including offensive turnover percentage, offensive block percentage, and both offensive and defensive rebounding. While this is based on a four game sample size, half of those games came against bottom 100 teams. Rebounding has been an issue all season long for Davis, as they rank 324th in offensive rebounding and 287th in defensive rebounding overall. They have also struggled to defend the perimeter. Northridge does not attempt a high volume of threes, but when they do, they will be facing a weak defensive unit around the arc.

With how well the Aggies have been performing over the last few weeks and the Matadors coming off a tough loss to a top 100 team on Sunday, this sets up as a classic letdown and get right spot. Give me the Matadors and the points.

Best Bet: CS Northridge +3.5 (-112) on Lucky Rebel
