Hump Day brings a marquee Big East showdown as Providence welcomes No. 4 UConn to Rhode Island. The Friars return home riding the emotion of a statement road win over St. John's, while the Huskies look to sharpen their focus after a comfortable victory against Marquette. Providence has shown fight this season, but consistency has been an issue, especially on the defensive end. UConn continues to profile as one of the most complete teams in the country, with elite balance on both sides of the floor. Something has to give tonight in a matchup packed with urgency and tons of energy.

#4 UConn vs. Providence Bet
Hump Day college basketball is always a good one, and tonight we get a Big East matchup in Rhode Island that would have your uncle clearing his schedule. The Providence Friars host No. 4 UConn back at home after securing a massive win over St. John's this past weekend. Both teams are riding high, but which one comes back down to earth? Let us dig our toes in.
Letdown City, USA
Providence is coming off its biggest win of the season, knocking off St. John's on the road as 14.5-point underdogs. Because of that, I have to fade them in this spot. UConn is coming off a coasting victory over Marquette on Sunday. Even though the Huskies won 73 to 57, they did not cover the 17.5-point spread. That said, this is not your younger brother's Golden Eagles team, so the motivation to fully lock in against Marquette is not what it once was. I expect UConn to be far more focused here before heading back home to host DePaul on Saturday.
Through seven home games this season, the Friars have been abysmal on the defensive end. They rank 229th in adjusted defensive efficiency, 324th in three point percentage defense, and 187th in defensive rebounding. The offensive side has not been much better. Providence struggles to protect the basketball, ranking 205th in turnover rate, and they have also had issues getting to the line, sitting 219th in free throw rate.
Back to Back Tests
The Huskies have had some issues sending teams to the free throw line, but Dan Hurley wants his group to stay aggressive defensively. UConn ranks inside the top ten in adjusted efficiency, effective field goal percentage, block percentage, and both two and three-point percentage defense. They can afford to send teams to the stripe.
Offensively, the Huskies are just as strong. They excel at generating second chance points, attacking the glass, and moving the ball, all ranking inside the top 80 nationally. Surprisingly, UConn has been far better away from home this season. In 6 games outside of Storrs, they rank inside the top 60 in adjusted offensive efficiency, effective field goal percentage, assist rate, and both two and three-point shooting. Haslametrics ranks UConn 98th in away home court metrics, while Providence sits at 188th.
I fully expect the Huskies to come out swinging, while the Friars look sluggish after an emotional win over one of the conference's best teams. Now they are expected to replicate that effort in back to back games? That is a lot to ask from a team that just picked up its first win over a top 100 opponent after losing six straight prior. UConn should cover the 10.5 with ease and coast into its matchup against DePaul on Saturday.
